Aaliyah-R. Kelly relationship in biopic
UPDATE: Just like that, Zendaya is reportedly out of the upcoming Aaliyah biopic. Soooo.. maybe this is a non-story for now…
Recently, it was announced that singer/actress Zendaya Coleman will play Aaliyah in a new, forthcoming Lifetime biopic. Today, more details surface that the biopic will detail the secret relationship between Aaliyah and R. Kelly. Maybe the young ones don’t know, but the two apparently got married when R. Kelly was 27 and Aaliyah only 15. Both Kellz and Aaliyah denied the marriage, but a marriage certificate falsely stating Aaliyah was 18 surfaced and made the marriage illegal, also annulled by her parents. So, looks like somebody’s gotta play Kellz, and that’ll definitely add some fun and intrigue to the biopic.
Via the New York Post:
“Aaliyah’s personal and professional relationship with R. Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect,” executive producer, Debra Martin Chase told The Post. “Above all else, it’s our hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent.”
The biopic is tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, based off the book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman. The biopic will show Aaliyah from 10 years old to her 2001 death in a plane crash at 22.
