R.I.P. DJ TimBuck2
It’s been a full 24 hours since the news impacted social media yesterday and it’s still shaking today. The Chicago hip hop scene lost an important member of its community with DJ TimBuck2’s passing due to cancer. He was only 34.
TimBuck2 was a mainstay on WGCI and in the scene with a weekly TimBuck2 Tuesdays event. He knew the entire scene from the big names to, most importantly, the independent artists. He gave many up and comers their first radio play with his #GoIll Radio show on WGCI weekends. In fact, it was really the only outlet artists here from the Chi had to mainstream radio. Think about that, that’s huge.
The countless amount of tributes spoke to that and the person himself. I curated a lot below and though I didn’t know him personally as well as everyone, I do have fond memories of some of his sets and enjoying life with the Treated Crew (Holt and Mano, specifically.) Sad loss. Give his unreleased mix a spin below too (h/t FSD). R.I.P.
My brother Tim has left me today. We spent 15 years trying to decide which one was the big bro. I always fell short because of my height. But we really were brothers. The last thing we said to each other was I love you. I'm thankful for that. But I am broken. I feel unnatural. I feel ruined. I can't do anything but wish u were back here laughing with me. Living and enjoying the great life we had. I loved my brother Tim very much through everything we have went through in this life he was a loyal brother. And only his CLOSE friends know what I mean. Rest In Peace my brother Tim. U left this world as a LEGEND. And you will NEVER be forgotten.

When Chicago artists weren't getting played on mainstream Chicago radio, @DjTimbuck2 used his platform to play nothing but Chicago artists.
