Shane Chubbz “Chubbziano EP”

To the Chicago HipHop audience, Shane Chubbz isn’t someone you’re too familiar. The reason being that Shane is from an entirely different continent. The British emcee jumped on our radar with the collaboration he had made with both Chicago emcee Mick Jenkins and production collaborative OnGaud on his “Pockets” single.

Since the release of that single he has made an impressive release within his Chubbziano EP, which includes an impressive mix of instrumentals including Pockets featuring Mick Jenkins. The only downside of the project is that it is relatively short, as it is 7 tracks long, but this lucky combination of seven has proved to be a solid release.

The songs that caught my attention were Pockets, Singing Miracles, and Monday Night Raw. Pockets gives us a tale of two cities as London and Chicago join forces. Monday Night Raw has a dope sample of Stone Cold Steve Austin that delivers a stunner with the inclusion of the Birdman/Clipse “What Happened To That Boy” instrumental. Lastly, Singing Miracle is the standout of the project as it mixes soulful samples with powerful production.

For those that have no idea what London HipHop sounds like, this is the tape that can give you an insight to how the current generation of British grinders are doing to come up in the music scene there. Projects like this also illustrate the impressive American/pop cultural influences that have gone into developing this release.
