Sylvan LaCue ‘Evangeline EP’

Turning in my late pass in catching up with Sylvan LaCue, a.k.a. QuESt.

The Miami emcee was an early find for us here on Gowhere shortly after he started making music circa ’09. Ant brought him to our attention and we’ve posted on his rise through Visionary Music Group and touring/collaborating with Logic a few years ago.

Now, while harmlessly scrolling the ‘gram I noticed the name change. No longer QuESt, Sylvan is going by his government name, and arrived at it in pretty cool fashion:

There was this one time, me & my engineer went to this coffee shop we became super fond of. There was this barista I knew that was working that afternoon. We played a new record and she loved it.

She always knew my name was “QuESt”, but never heard any of my previous work besides that song. I remember paying for my cup of coffee, and my real name popped up from the card scan: Sylvan LaCue. She said, “This is your real name?… This fits you a hell of a lot better than QuESt, just saying.” Ironically, I guess I was Searching Sylvan all along…

This brings us to now, his latest EP released last month, well after his amicable departure from Visionary Music Group. Sylvan LaCue links up with producer Fortune for all 5 tracks and he raps and harmonizes about various relationship, lady-centric topics. There’s a creative flip of Drake’s “How Bout Now” as well called “FaceTime & Chill”. It was a cool listen from beginning to end so give this quick-hitting project a run below. Only fitting for me that I happen to be in Miami this week too 😀

Far From Familiar, Sylvan LaCue’s next project, will drop this Spring.
