Jeremih f/ J. Cole “Planes”
Back in the fall, we were first made aware of a Jeremih x J. Cole collab when the album art above was released and seemingly set to follow up “Don’t Tell Em” as Jeremih’s next album single. But, even with a release date, the single never dropped.
Until now, on this seemingly sparing Saturday, where we finally get that first listen and perhaps a sign that the album’s in fact on the way. Jeremih & J. Cole sing and rap, respectively, about creating that high feeling of ecstacy with that special someone and “Planes” becomes the metaphor.
Unfortunately for me, the song didn’t connect on first listen. The beat, produced by Vinylz, works for both Jeremih & J. Cole but seemed like it didn’t know if it was going to be more background or just as poppin’ as the foreground. Overall, it’s chill but it didn’t have that extra something I suppose. The verses from both artists didn’t resonate with me really as well — J. Cole’s slower flow for the first half of his, especially. All that said, “Planes” is also the type of track that could grow on me with more listens. And given that I have songs from both that I really love, I’ll be giving this single more shots at my rotation. Give this one a shot in yours below.
