Jay Z & Jay Electronica “We Made It”

Here’s why Jay Z called out Drake, catching wind of the Rolling Stone interview regarding his art references.

“It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references!,” Drizzy said. “I would love to collect art at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.”

Jay Z’s response:

“Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk/ Silly me, rapping about shit I really bought/ While these rappers rap about guns they aint shot/ And a bunch of other silly shit they aint got.”

Surprise, surprise! This morning Jay Elec released not only his second track in as many weeks (a rarity in itself), but also a collab with Hov as they redo “We Made It”.

Both Jay’s do their thing here, with my favorite stretches coming by Electronica’s concluding bars and Hov’s intro. I thought the chopped up production in Jay Z’s didn’t help his verse, but this output from Hov is better than his recent features, IMHO. Both Jay’s also classify “we” as African-Americans and that “we made it” out of slavery, with nods to 12 Years a Slave as well.
