Ri-Ri, Kanye, & Paul keep it simple for the “FourFiveSeconds” video as the three are simply framed in front of a white background, directed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The coolest still is Rihanna’s silhouette, as covered in yesterday’s teaser.
The video still leaves more to the imagination, however. Perhaps the analogy would be, you’re excited to play some pick-up ball but the competition is lacking, you play with a couple of ball-hogs, there are needless arguments. Ultimately, you’re happy you got a workout but unsatisfied at the end. This happened to me last week so it’s the fresh moment I thought of when zooming through the video above. *Kanye shrug*
I do appreciate the minimalism, but when I see this on the heels of what I deemed my video of the year yesterday, it reminded me of how Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart had to follow up Will Ferrell lip synching to “Drunk In Love”. Kind of a losing battle already.
Perhaps I’ll revisit this after this trio of stars performs “FourFiveSeconds” at the Grammys? UPDATE: Kanye West reportedly will also “deliver a never-before-seen solo performance.” Assuming this would be for “Only One”.

Or perhaps in person when they go on tour… (rumored)
