R. Kelly revealed on Facebook the date of his next album, Buffet.
Brooklyn, New York! I’m bringing my HITS to Barclays Center the day my “Buffet” album comes out September 25th.
And yup, he’ll be celebrating at Barclays. Get tickets tomorrow.
As a bonus #TBT, R. Kelly also tweeted his place at #1 in Spotify’s Most Nostalgic Song with this classic…
Emphasis on “in the work”, but with the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton nearing release this summer, the follow up tour only makes more sense. And how about Eminem in the late Eazy-E’s spot. This would bring out rap fans old, new, whatever. Hope it happens, as teased in the new profile by Hollywood Reporter.
According to a new interview in THR, the studio wants to set up a European N.W.A. reunion tour with Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, MC Ren, Ice Cube, and then add Eminem to the mix. The possible reunion tour has yet to be finalized with everyone’s busy schedules to deal with, but there is no doubt that this would create considerable buzz for the film. “We don’t have anything settled yet with everyone’s schedules,” Donna Langley from Universal told THR. “But we think it can create a lot of buzz.”
Both Eminem and Dre are set to appear on the film’s official soundtrack, which will be released around the time of the film and also include an appearance from Kendrick Lamar. Dre and Cube also talked about the Suge Knight situation in the THR interview, with each of them recalling the day the incident happened, though they weren’t sure if Knight showed up that day to cause trouble. “It’s just a really unfortunate incident,” Dre said. “Maybe [Knight] was looking for trouble. I don’t know.” You can read the full profile here.
A quick refresh of the Facebook feed this afternoon and look what I see…
F the money! I’ll def be warm to some new Kweli, but for now, ICYMI, spin his Train of Thought album earlier this month featuring rare freestyles, b-sides, and more.
Another sad blow for the world of hip hop as Hussein Fatal, longtime 2Pac collaborator and member of The Outlawz, has passed away in a car accident. The death was confirmed by fellow Outlawz members and on Twitter below.
You may not know you know Hussein Fatal, but if you’ve ever played “Hit ‘Em Up”, “Troublesome”, “Still I Rise”, or “All About U”, you definitely have heard his verses. That’s just a sampling of his features with ‘Pac, let alone his solo material too (here’s the full list.) This, on top of the news I just learned even earlier today, that GBE’s Capo was gunned down here in Chicago, and it’s just an unfortunate day for the rap community. R.I.P.
(Hussein Fatal on the second verse.)
UPDATE 07.24.15: Here’s the full stream. After seeing the movie, the soundtrack fits even better than you may think on paper. And yeah… go see the movie. Great performance by Jake Gyllenhaal.
UPDATE: The real tracklist is released today and is perhaps even more intriguing than the fake one. Eminem & Gwen Stefani?! That sounds like it could be cool. Plus, a tribute to the late James Horner, who passed away over the weekend in a tragic plane crash. The legendary composer has “Cry For Love” on the intro/outro. All executive produced by Eminem and in stores July 24th.
06.12.15: Today, Shady Records revealed the cover art above for the upcoming soundtrack to Southpaw, executive produced by the one and only Eminem.
Out now on the Soundtrack is “Phenomenal”, which I initially greeted with a mediocre review. As the Beats commercials have steadily played throughout this NBA Finals, the hit-or-miss hook grew on me to ‘hit’ status and further listens of the single have put it in *Tibs Fav. status. The non-melodic flows still get to me, but I can’t ignore the words and the subtle woman’s voice that adds a punch to the production.
Quick tangent aside, I’m a little more excited now for both the soundtrack and the movie itself, which I learned today was written with Eminem in mind for the lead character. Wow. Makes sense, huh?
