R.I.P. Hussein Fatal (of The Outlawz)

Another sad blow for the world of hip hop as Hussein Fatal, longtime 2Pac collaborator and member of The Outlawz, has passed away in a car accident. The death was confirmed by fellow Outlawz members and on Twitter below.

You may not know you know Hussein Fatal, but if you’ve ever played “Hit ‘Em Up”, “Troublesome”, “Still I Rise”, or “All About U”, you definitely have heard his verses. That’s just a sampling of his features with ‘Pac, let alone his solo material too (here’s the full list.) This, on top of the news I just learned even earlier today, that GBE’s Capo was gunned down here in Chicago, and it’s just an unfortunate day for the rap community. R.I.P.

(Hussein Fatal on the second verse.)

Southpaw Soundtrack (Tracklist)

UPDATE 07.24.15: Here’s the full stream. After seeing the movie, the soundtrack fits even better than you may think on paper. And yeah… go see the movie. Great performance by Jake Gyllenhaal.

UPDATE: The real tracklist is released today and is perhaps even more intriguing than the fake one. Eminem & Gwen Stefani?! That sounds like it could be cool. Plus, a tribute to the late James Horner, who passed away over the weekend in a tragic plane crash. The legendary composer has “Cry For Love” on the intro/outro. All executive produced by Eminem and in stores July 24th.

06.12.15: Today, Shady Records revealed the cover art above for the upcoming soundtrack to Southpaw, executive produced by the one and only Eminem.

Out now on the Soundtrack is “Phenomenal”, which I initially greeted with a mediocre review. As the Beats commercials have steadily played throughout this NBA Finals, the hit-or-miss hook grew on me to ‘hit’ status and further listens of the single have put it in *Tibs Fav. status. The non-melodic flows still get to me, but I can’t ignore the words and the subtle woman’s voice that adds a punch to the production.

Quick tangent aside, I’m a little more excited now for both the soundtrack and the movie itself, which I learned today was written with Eminem in mind for the lead character. Wow. Makes sense, huh?

Free Weezy Album release date

Lil Wayne’s long-awaited album is finally upon us. Well, barring a push-back the week or day of. I’ll believe it when I hear it, but the man himself is plotting a July 4th release date, as said below. Time will tell soon enough if we’ll have some new Weezy for the summer.

Lil Wayne signed a deal with Jay Z

UPDATE from Lil Wayne’s Manager: “When Wayne was speaking about the partnership with JAY Z, he was speaking about his new deal as an artist owner with TIDAL.”

I just signed a deal with my motherf*cking idol JAY Z!!!

That was Lil Wayne at last night’s KMEL Summer Jam, and now the speculation begins about what the deal was about. Quick thoughts point to Roc Nation given Wayne’s long troubles now with Birdman and Cash Money, but it’s more likely Weezy’s referring to TIDAL since “Glory” was just released exclusively there. Stay tuned.

Apple announces new streaming service

UPDATE: Kanye West and Apple have been talking about bringing the exclusive release of his upcoming album SWISH to the streaming service. No deal has been reached, but with Kanye distancing himself from Tidal since its release, there is reason to speculate. (via Buzzfeed).

Today was Apple’s annual summer keynote #WWDC15 and coming with it is the announcement of iOS 9, the “El Capitan” operating system for the computers, and the highly expected announcement of their new streaming service.

The deets: FREE for 3 months. $9.99/month after that (standard, and unlike TIDAL’s high prices.) Available June 30th, you can stream any song on iTunes on demand, create your own playlists, and listen to a 24/7 radio station anchored by Ebro in New York and Zane Lowe in L.A. amongst others.

Artists, like Drake and Pharrell who reportedly signed up with Apple’s streaming service, will be involved in the new ‘Connect’ feature where they will exclusively release music and videos. In fact, Drake was on hand in Cupertino (above), hinting that he’ll be using Apple Music in his plans for releasing his hotly anticipated album, Views From The 6. Nice jacket too, bro.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsApple Music though seems more promising than Tidal, to be honest. But note too that this is coming from an Apple loyalist who has iTunes and music on the iPhone as his preferred players. I’m OCD on organizing my music library so I just never strayed from iTunes. Now, I may finally commit to paying a monthly fee for a streaming service, especially if Apple follows through on supporting the artists who are making music out their bedroom, as mentioned in the commercial below. After all, gotta listen to the indie artists we always have on rotation here on Gowhere as part of my stream service experience. We shall see come June 30th.
