Dubai is planning an underwater hotel

An underwater hotel?! Finally, an idea that rivals the Butabi brothers’ idea for a club where the outside looks like the inside and the inside looks like the streets outside. Leave it to Dubai to try and make this happen as disc shaped volumes are designed for both above and below the ocean.

The underwater disc features 21 private rooms, custom lighting systems, and large panes of glass to view the marine life on the other side of the window. The abovewater disc features your typical restaurant, spa, swimming pool, rooftop garden, and helipad. Safety wise, if danger arises, the coolest feature may be that the underwater disc will automatically surface. Plus, each disc is sized according to the local condition and has the ability to be relocated if “any changes in the environmental or economic conditions occur”, meaning the marine life will be safe as well.

All in all, this is quite the ambitious and eye-catching project to be constructed. I can only imagine the experience if and when this gets built and if and when I put down my life’s savings for a one-night stay.

Hive Apartments

Hive Apartments, located in Melbourne, Australia by ITN Architects, fuses two of my favorite loves: architecture and hip hop. Besides the beautiful exterior seen in the slideshow above, this complex is attractive to me because of its function as well. It carries out a graffiti theme throughout the exterior and interior and the video below walks us through the building and how some of the graffiti pieces are load-bearing parts of the structure. So they had to be placed first to support the building under construction and upon completion. Pretty cool. Take a look at the photos and video and see for yourself.

As I stared down at my feet, I noticed all of the pet owners in my lift were tightening their leashes away from my shoes. Hm…

Sgt. Tibs and I are in a bit of a debate between spiked heels for guys and girls.  Cute on girls, but questionable for guys.  Perhaps its been overdone in the recent few years, but I found a pair of kicks that could change your mind.

Thoughts on this trend? Is it over?  Is it still as hard edge.

Primorsky Aquarium

Under construction now is the Primorsky Aquarium in Vladivostok, Russia – a massive space being built at the request of the President of the Russian Federation. The architects, OJSC Primorgrajdanproekt (it took me about .005 seconds to decide I was copying and pasting that), did a magnificent job on the exterior facades and with the site in general, as seen in the pictures above. Plus as a fun fact: the two biggest tanks will hold 7,000 tons. Whoa there. More pics/info via ArchDaily.

Last night was Chicago’s forth FNO.  Originally started four years ago to boost consumer economic confidence, many of the Michigan Avenue stores opened their doors for freebies, cocktails, food, and prizes.

I met up with Heather after work.  When she said she was wearing a high low top with white shorts, she wasn’t kidding!  I loved it. She happened to stumble across her outfit in Akira while looking for a maxi dress and discovered the amazing top.  The whole night, I was chasing after her in that stunning backless number with dramatic tail.  I wore a polka dotted ruffled wrap dress from Topshop with a vintage Prada parrot belt.  The weather was perfect and kicked off the evening at Sable.

Stop number one was Haberdash.  A local Chicago boutique filled with tons of dapper men’s pieces.  Ladies, if you need to pick up an attractive (and successful) male date, I suggest you pretend to buy your brother a wallet and just browse the store checking out the um… merchandise. Big props to their staff that was so friendly and personable.  The in house barber even offered to shave our legs and trim our eyebrows… but we politely declined.  The team that works there is so fun.

Next stop was Sak’s Fifth and Zara.  Sak’s hooked our friend Danielle up with a free make over by Chanel.  The stylist gave her the cat eye / winged tipped eye.   Zara had champaigne flowing.   Tables after tables of champaigne glasses with seemingly limitless amounts of bubbly.  I bumped into this fabulous couple completely decked out in white and had to get a quick pic.  Was it the incredible black highlight, daring crusted jewel headband, or the all white pair… you decide!

Megan & Jackson

After spotting a pregnant woman snacking on a breadstick, Heather, Danielle, and I later figured out that the center pieces were actually edible.  Always trust the pregnant women.

I copped some killer flats with cap toe studs for only $50!  And last but not least, Matt Rolanwas spinning killer disco vibe beats all night long at the event.  Gotta check him out at Paris Club tonight.

The night was already flying away so we booked it over to Macy’s. I got a free facial from Origins, Heather got some killer smokey eyes, compliments of Mac Cosmetics.

the finished product!  Danielle, me, and Heather

Cat eyes, no make up, and smokey eyes… Chanel, Origins, and Mac Cosmetics, respecitively

Final FNO stop of the night was the 900 North Michigan. Sipping on cocktails, free massages, manicures, and a Beauty Bazaar that could keep up entertained for days, these were all things that we were not able to enjoy because were so fashionably late.  We know where we will be starting next year.

my dates vamping it up!

Our final stops of the night was the Rooftop at the Wit.  Great music on a rooftop over looking the river made me realize how much I love this city.

…and then we made a couple more friends in the lift.

Victorian Westbourne Grove Church Loft

Shouts to my brother (the fam and I call him ‘Meffrey’) for passing this beautiful, contemporary example of architecture along to me over this Labor Day Weekend. What you see in the slideshow above is an added loft at the top of a church. The design utilizes the church’s grandiose windows, with the interior design and furniture adding to the already inspiring energy that is undoubtedly experienced if up there in person. Love the concept and would definitely love lofting in a holy place like this.
