The Making of “Soul Survivor”

Like how it was for many, “Soul Survivor” was my first introduction to Young Jeezy and it quickly became a now sentimental favorite of my HS crew and I. I was up on Akon since his debut album so I was finding any song he was featured on at the time. One of the many hooks he killed was “Soul Survivor” but I was also intrigued by Jeezy’s gritty style and delivery.

With Jeezy dropping “God” yesterday and a new album on the way, Complex produced their latest Magnum Opus mini-doc around the making of “Soul Survivor”. Sit-downs with Jeezy, DJ Drama, and more above.

Akon to bring solar power to 600 million Africans

Applaud Akon, everyone.

His new initiative “Akon Lighting Africa” is aiming to bring solar power to over 600 million Africans through the launch of a Solar Academy in Bamako, Mali.

The additional info, via GOOD Mag, explains it in more detail, which only widens the smile:

The Academy will train local African engineers and entrepreneurs in order to teach them how to produce solar power.

Lighting Africa noted that solar power electricity and micro-grids are already “really taking off in rural Africa.” The continent, their statement argues, has over 120 days of sun a year, making it that much easier to harness solar power. Akon’s goals are two-fold: both to provide clean alternative energy and great, meaningful jobs. The Academy will help empower people all across educational levels to build the electricity that’s going to light their homes.

*standing ovation*

Akon releases 5 new tracks

At long last, Akon’s album, Stadium, is indeed coming.

At least from the looks of it as Akon has personally delivered five new tracks from the CD that will be broken up into 5 different sections — Euro, Pop, Urban, Island, and World — that cover the versatile spectrum of Akon’s artistry.

Naturally, herein lies one track from each of those sections with Stephen Marley & D’Banj featuring on the latter two. The Urban one sounds a lil too Future-esque for me with the Euro one prolly being my fave of the 5.

Scarface f/ Akon “The Exit Plan”

Enter Scarface once again with “The Exit Plan”. His return is assisted by Akon, who goes back to his badass roots with this hook, and Cardiak for the lethal production. Pretty strong first offering of the upcoming album, Deeply Rooted, slated for a 2014 release.
