Meek Mill’s on his interview run this week and below, I’ll highlight his in-depth sit-down with Angie Martinez. He opens up about being in jail, working with and being in a relationship with Nicki Minaj, and also trying to be the one who “helps save kids.” Here are some great, positive quotables from the full interview below.
“God is the only one that saved me, I was being caught up in trying to earn respect from people that don’t care about me…sitting in the cell, I said to myself I kinda needed this,” Meek reflected. “I’m really touching the people, most celebrities don’t want people to come near them…I can’t be the same.”
“I can deliver the message to them. Dumb sh** don’t make you cool. That ain’t what life is about, I thought it was all about the hood. I come from a place where people die for $1,000 and now I’m in a place where people tip $1,000.00,” he said.
During the last week prior to the release of Souled Out (out Sept. 9), Jhene Aiko has upped the promo run in NYC for the album. One stop today was with Angie Martinez and Power 105 and the gals dished on all things the album, except a story behind the collab with Common (would love to hear more about this). Probably the most interesting, revealing part of this interview was Aiko squashing romance rumors with Drake and Childish Gambino again becoming increasingly honest about why she and sister Mila J don’t have any songs together. No beef ultimately, but they don’t want to mix business either. Hopefully it comes together down the line when/if the time is right.
Can I start calling them Khloe & Frenchie? I feel like that has a nice ring to it. Anyway, it was the couple’s first interview together as they sat down with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 Power 105 and talked about themselves and the reaction to them as a couple. Yadda yadda yadda… I just cared about the Kanye West news tidbit revealed by French Montana in the interview.
It’s been previously talked about that the two have been in the studio, and it sounds like one of those sessions was for “All Day” — the first single Kanye West revealed is coming soon in this week’s cover story with GQ. The way ‘Ye collabs with artists, there’s no telling how much French is involved, but now we at least won’t be caught by surprise when “All Day” drops hopefully sooner than the “two weeks” that ‘Ye hinted at.
If you were swept up in the sudden departure of Angie Martinez from her longtime home at Hot 97 to rival Power 105 last week, this is the interview you’ve been waiting for. Angie talks in-depth about the leave for the first time on her new home The Breakfast Club.
Whoa! It’s true, it’s true. After speculation stemming from a smiley face emoji after Angie Martinez’s shocking announcement that she’s resigning from Hot 97 yesterday that she’s jumping to the station’s NYC rival, Power 105, The Breakfast Club today confirms the move.
I want to thank, Thea Mitchem, Tom Poleman and Doc Wynter for this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to join Power 105.1 in New York and The Beat in Miami and expand my brand even further in the coming months.
I know it’s not that serious, and I’m genuinely intrigued to hear Angie in the new 2-6pm time slot on Power 105, but can we get Angie’s face superimposed over Hulk Hogan (with Charlamagne and Angela Yee as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, Miss Info as the ref, and Rosenberg as the Macho Man.)
Again, I know it’s not that serious; it’s been all love from Hot 97. I just still think this is funny and there needs to be a hip hop version, ha!
EDIT: Our own @5ABIOmatic corrects/strengthens my analogy.
@gowherehiphop she pulled a Scott Hall & Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, Lex Luger and Rick Rude are also acceptable lol..
Big industry news today as Hot 97 mainstay and legendary radio host/interviewer Angie Martinez is stepping down today. This news is a shocker to me, and I can only imagine for the avid NYC listeners. Angie posted this photo on IG earlier today with the following explanation. Tune in to catch what she says on the air for the last time.
Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned…. Love, angie
