The POTUS Summer Playlist

This is just pretty neat.

We all know President Obama has a respect for hip hop and soul music and the latter is seen even more clearly today after the POTUS links up with Spotify to deliver two 20-song playlists. There’s a lot of nods to legends of the past like Al Green, Nina Simone, and Ray Charles amongst many others.

You’ll also see some Beyonce & Frank Ocean, John Legend & Andre 3000 (forgot about this one!), and Justin Timberlake, who was excited about the shoutout and that’s how I saw this in the first place. Groove along with the prez this weekend below.

As for the POTUS’ whereabouts today…

Chill Friday with the MVP &amp, POTUS.

Ariana Grande Tributes Whitney Houston

Singer Ariana Grande took the White House by storm last night covering Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” for an audience including Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, Ms. Aretha Franklin, & of course, President Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama. Though a difficult song, Ms. Grande proved that she can take on virtually anything with her stunning rendition of the song.

Watch the beginning to see her cover “I Have Nothing”:

Afterwards, she also sang one of her very own tracks entitled “Tattooed Heart” ending the show with an energized duet with the legendary Patti Labelle, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae, Melissa Etheridge, & Tessanne Chin covering Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary”

A stage of powerhouse voices indeed. The “Women Of Soul: In Performance at the White House” airs on PBS on April 7.
