I’m diggin’ the Michigan combo for this one, especially since Draymond is one of my new favorite players this season, Eminem one of my favorite rappers of all-time, and that I just so happen to be in Detroit for the weekend right now.
This new spot for Beats By Dre’s new Solo headphones features Green taking questions from the media, then putting on his headphones to listen to a new preview of “Phenomenal” by Eminem for the upcoming boxing movie, Southpaw. There was a quick first listen in the trailer, but this one is even better because it reveals a new, and excellent, flow from Marshall. On top of that, Eminem will be executive producing the film’s entire soundtrack so there should be some more picks (and maybe even more new Eminem music too.)
For now, I’m just lookin’ forward to this full version (and the Warriors winning the ‘ship.)
“We have been involved in developing Southpaw since its inception, and Eminem has dedicated himself to ensuring that this film captured his passion for the project through his music,” Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg said in a press release. “We’ve assembled a great soundtrack to accompany what’s sure to be one of the finest boxing films ever.”
Serena comes from the same city I come from, so I know the pain that she feels. I know the loss that she has. That was my approach on the record. You gotta pull from that. You gotta pull from everything that you hate about yourself, everything that you hate about where you come from, and turn it into something positive.
– Kendrick Lamar
Beats By Dre provides a sweet, introspective sit-down with Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar, plus producer Sounwave and TDE’s Ali, as they all discuss the inspiration for the aggressive and real lyrics and how the beat was formed around it (and vice versa.)
For any nerd of the creative process like me, you’ll enjoy this as the video provides some new insight and a pretty clear story of how “Pay For It” (long been in the rotation) came together. Starting with some true words from Kendrick above. The way he and Jay Rock conclude the video is pretty neat as well, I couldn’t help but nod my head in agreement. I just wish they sat down with the singer Chantal for the track because her vocals are a big part of why I like it too.
I love hearing about how a song comes together.
When it happens to be probably my favorite song of all-time, I am naturally a 10 on the excitement scale. Today, Beats By Dre dropped this quick, yet informative teaser for their upcoming sit-down reveal with Eminem who will share the inner workings of “Lose Yourself” for the first time ever, coinciding with the release of Shady XV in a couple of weeks (and the demo version too). Looking forward to finding out the full story…

Here’s your workout motivation video for the day.
The new Beats By Dre commercial debuts after the release of Jay Rock’s new single featuring King Kendrick and singer Chantal. The 1-minute spot ironically doesn’t feature Jay Rock’s part but instead the hook and Kendrick’s verse as the backdrop to intense workout footage of LeBron James, Cam Newton, Serena Williams, Zou ShiMing, and Alexander Ovechkin, who of course are listening to the new Wireless Beats headphones.
Lowkey though, I need those because I can’t listen to music when I do those 25 lb. curls (that’s each hand, bro.)
All jokes aside, I’m glad “Pay For It” is getting a push because it’s a quality collab from Monday that was my favorite of all of this week’s big name releases. Be sure to hear the full thing.
And oh yes, King James returns to Cleveland tonight. With Kendrick Lamar performing pre-game. There may be some media coverage on this. *Kenny Mayne voice*
Apple buys Dr. Dre’s Beats by Dre for 3.2 BILLION!
This makes Dr. Dre the first hip hop billionaire.
Or does it?!
Dre’s stake in Beats currently stands at somewhere around 20-25%… capital gains taxes could take a bite out of his big payday, likely leaving him with a net worth in the neighborhood of $800 million. It’s not quite enough to land on the Forbes 400, but it would easily make him hip-hop’s richest man, topping current champion Diddy by $100 million.
Give or take, right?!
Dre celebrated last night with Tyrese, confirming the deal in this (drunk?) video selfie below (on top of the official words this morning). Whatever the exact numbers, congrats to Dre and Apple — two of the coolest, biggest brands in the world. Them joining forces is something I’m really eager to see. Let the envelope be pushed even more..!
The next step for Beats by Dre is more commercials depicting fanbases as ravenous vultures their new music streaming service entitled ‘Beats Music’. Billboard got the preview of the app, which will launch on January 21st. The details of which are below. I’m intrigued, but as someone content with the music I have on my phone (which features many independent releases we post on Gowhere that aren’t on streaming services), I’m not sure if I’ll take the leap. But hey, that’s what free trials are for, right? The artists interaction has some potential.
The service will initially carry 20 million songs and will be available on Apple’s iOS, Windows Mobile, Google Android, Sonos and Web browsers. AT&T serves as the partner in the launch which will offer its customers a 7-day free trial of the service. Afterwards, the service would cost $9.99 a month. Customers can also opt for AT&T’s family bundle which would come with a 90-day free trial. Once the trial period runs out, Beats would charge $14.99 a month, but allow up to 5 people and 10 devices a full, on-demand access to the streaming service. In addition to this, Beats has partnered with Target for a promotion that would give away 30-day free trials to a customer who buys anything from the store’s electronics department. (via HHNM)
Says Jimmy Iovine:
We built something that works for us, for me, our friends, Dr. Dre. We enjoy using it. It’s what we would like to have, and we built it to where we felt it could help others.
Last week, Kendrick headlined a Beats By Dre Party in Las Vegas and above is the up close footage. K. Dot fans, this may hold you over just a lil bit.
As for the Beats By Dre commercial of Colin Kaepernick that premiered today, well, let’s just say I’m with Steve Kerr and much of Twitter…
