Kendrick Lamar & Bilal debut “Money Over Love”

Last night in L.A., Kendrick Lamar was joined by his TPAB collaborator on stage and the two, with Adrian Younge, premiered a new song called “Money Over Love”. Interesting… watch the clips below for your first listen/preview.

Kendrick Lamar ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ out now

UPDATE: Explicit version now available. Phew! Now, this is actually a good strategy. I’ve long wanted an artist to set a date and then surprise everyone ahead of the leak and just release the album. The euphoria of a pleasant surprise adds to a favorable experience.

But dang, looks like it wasn’t a purposeful early release.

Anywho, have at it everyone and stream it conveniently here below.

Also, here is the tracklist written out with the newly revealed features. Good to see Bilal a couple times (including the Thundercat track that was premiered on Colbert) as well as James Fauntleroy. Rap features from Snoop Dogg, Rapsody, and curiously no one from TDE.

01. “Wesley’s Theory” f/ George Clinton & Thundercat
02. “For Free? (Interlude)”
03. “King Kunta”
04. “Institutionalized” f/ Bilal, Anna Wise & Snoop Dogg
05. “These Walls” f/ Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat
06. “U”
07. “Alright”
08. “For Sale? (Interlude)”
09. “Momma”
10. “Hood Politics”
11. “How Much A Dollar Cost” f/ James Fauntleroy & Ronald Isley
12. “Complexion (A Zulu Love)” f/ Rapsody
13. “The Blacker The Berry”
14. “You Ain’t Gotta Lie (Momma Said)”
15. “i”
16. “Mortal Man”

Here’s my snarky comments when only the clean version dropped for about an hour before the explicit followed. Perhaps it’ll also put the tweet up above in better context.

It’s out now… you can buy it on iTunes… but it’s the clean version. I’ll pass until the explicit drops. Hopefully it’s soon after posting time because really, who wants to listen to a clean rap album?

Surprise releasing your album a week early but it’s the clean version?!

Kendrick Lamar debuts new song on Colbert Report

New Kendrick Lamar — a world premiere of an untitled song as Colbert’s final musical guest.

If that wasn’t cool enough, Colbert put on the pressure by deadpanly asserting that previous musical guests Paul McCartney, R.E.M., and Nas were his opening acts. That’s a high standard to follow, but Kendrick did just that with the help of Thundercat, Terrace Martin, and Bilal.

The song expertly fuses the genres that the latter two artists come from; there’s elements of jazzy R&B flavor for a production that oscillates and is never totally the same. Then there’s Kendrick’s part. Some spoken word and some high-paced rhyming with the substance and lyricism that impresses on an easy first-listen. I had to rewind this back, and back again. It comes at a perfect time with what’s going on in the world today.

Can’t wait for the studio version for this TBD titled track to drop. The performance starts at 4:15 after a humorous interview with Colbert below.
