BJ The Chicago Kid & Add-2 “15 Minutes of Fame”

Another day, another gem off the upcoming Jamla Records compilation Jamla Is The Squad. This one is a Chicago affair as R&B and hip hop mix with BJ The Chicago Kid & Add-2 rhyming over a smooth 9th Wonder production. “15 Minutes of Fame” first features an introspective BJ carrying the first half of the track upset at the lady who left him and that he’s moved on. Great vocal performance by him on this. Add-2 concluded the record with a great guest verse, addressing the lady with references that tie in to each other a few lines after another. For example, keep your ears perked for his Neo from The Matrix reference.

All in all, “15 Minutes Of Fame” feels like one of those smooth hip hop/R&B hybrids from like 10 years ago. I loved that vibe and love this one too.  Instant *Tibs Fav. with the full project dropping January 28th. Listen below, along with the previous previews.

ICYMI: New Christmas Releases

It’s Christmas Eve! And best believe the music industry is aware of that. Today and tomorrow will mark new releases from some of your favorite rappers and singers (the one I’m still looking forward to: Fabolous’ Soul Tape 3 Christmas morning), but in this spotlight, I’ma shine the light on a few under the radar singers depending who you ask.

Starting with BJ The Chicago Kid. The hometown crooner had a great 2013 and looks to end it the right way with the fullest Christmas project I’ve seen this past week. Stream his new A Soulful Christmas EP first below.

Adding to the unique Christmas projects is Nikki Jean and producer Double-0 (of Kidz In The Hall fame). They keep those with a short attention span satisfied with the new 3-track EP, Christmas Remastered. It reimagines classic Christmas tunes over the likes of OutKast, Jay Z, and DOOM. Instant *Tibs Fav. on the first two tracks so press play on that too.

Finally, I’ll spotlight a stand alone single: a Chicago singer you should get to know in Vince Nantes. “Home For Christmas” is a heartwarming track and *Tibs Fav. that I think your folks will enjoy as part of the Christmas playlist these next couple days. Download that to round out the post.

Have a safe, warm, and Merry Christmas out there! I’ll be checking in throughout with more cool updates during the Holiday.
