L’Orange f/ Blu “Need You”

Now this is something interesting… L’Orange & Blu first collab for a song that stands tall on its own “Need You”. Blu’s fast flows and lyrics are simply killer. Then, for the video, we have a “post apocalyptic Adam and Eve story” to quote director EmaLee Arroyo:

“As a multi-media artist coming from a back ground in performance and video art, the first time I heard L’Orange’s “Need You” I was struck with the songs dichotomy of beauty and melancholy. I wanted to create a world, a universe where this song could live and breathe to reveal and tease out the tension of these themes. The gorgeous ebbs and flows of the song partnered with the rhymes of Blu push the boundaries for the possibilities for imagery. With the amazing space of Murphy’s Ranch practically in my back yard I was inspired to develop a post apocalyptic Adam and Eve story that again would play off of the themes of beauty and melancholy. Creating a more cinematic and filmic treatment allowed for collaboration with fellow artists to explore this post apocalyptic world where choosing life may mean choosing death.”

Watch and see how it plays out above.

Blu “The West”

NEW Blu seemingly out of nowhere and even better news: it’s his first single off the upcoming double album, Good To Be Home, hitting stores May 20th. Here’s “The West”, produced by Bombay.

Jamla Is The Squad [Stream]

This time last week, the previews for the Jamla Is The Squad compilation album were super heavy. “No Competition” & “15 Minutes of Fame” were my favorites and those collabs set the tone for the full project that dropped today. 9th Wonder‘s label pulled out all the stops for the 25 (!) new tracks with production primarily helmed by Khrysis and the boss man himself. Jamla artists Rapsody, GQ, Heather Victoria, the newest signee, Chicago’s Add-2, and more all appear on the album, with big-name features from Talib Kweli, Phonte, Blu, Pete Rock, Lecrae, and BJ The Chicago Kid also appearing. Hosted by Statik Selektah. Stream and purchase below via the good friends at DJ Booth.
