As promised, and nah, there’s no delay!
- XXXTENTACION on the first song… powerful. (R.I.P. 🙏)
- The Obama shoutout at the end of “Dedicate”… flex on ’em Weezy!
- Swizzy brings it on “Uproar” to put this at max. volume…
- Mona Lisa…
- Open Letter… Famous (with his daughter Reginae)… vintage reflective Weezy.
- Snoop and a flip of Dre’s “Xxplosive”. When that dropped… man. Immediate add to the car rotation here in L.A.
- And then it started to feel long… I’m not the biggest Weezy fan so take it for what it is though.
- Definitely got the mid-2000s sound a few times too, which for the Ashanti feature… Hey! I didn’t mind!
Weezy returns. How we liking the album so far?
It seems like the diss on track 01 of Sorry 4 The Wait 2 was the tipping point.
First, Birdman was upset, now Lil Wayne is suing Birdman and Cash Money for $8 million in advances, reports TMZ. Weezy claims that Birdman is violating their contract by withholding Tha Carter 5. Birdman has said the album will be out in “due time”, but right now there are no signs of it to come. Really unfortunate that it is coming to this…
Short and sweet, but after one full week of the Cash Money rant simmering, it’s still anti-Cash Money for Weezy. The fallout is real… let’s see what happens next between Wayne and Birdman and for Tha Carter V.
Sidebar: I know Nicki Minaj has nothing to do with this development in particular, but I did just see/find this cool photo of them together for the first time when trying to pick a lead image. So there ya go.
Tunechi wastes no time to let loose the studio quality version of “Start A Fire” just hours after he and new beau Christina Milian debuted it at the AMAs.
Wayne doesn’t hold back on the verses and on first listen, it’s easy to see why he had to be bleeped out for an awkwardly long time. It’s not unusual for longtime Wayne listeners so that doesn’t bother me too much. Milian sounds nice on the CDQ even though I can’t quite 100% get behind the lyrics… feels a little too cheesy. I’m not sure I’ll be bumpin’ this on the regular, but I won’t turn off the radio when it comes on this winter.
Find this on Tha Carter V (Pt. 1) come December 9th.
The AMAs are ongoing at posting time and I’ll update as the night proceeds and the videos are uploaded to the interwebs.
The highlight for me so far was Lil Wayne debuting a new song from Tha Carter V alongside his new muse Christina Milian. It’s called “Start A Fire” and sounds like it could have some mainstream legs to it. Full song and explicit version TBD (Wayne’s entire second line was bleeped out for an awkwardly long amount of time… and it was probably fantastic.)
After Tunechi and Christina pranced off the stage, Nicki Minaj and Skylar Grey performed another rendition of “Bed of Lies” in all-white attire. It was a little strange to see some cuts of people dancing with it, but I appreciate that Nicki keeps pushing one of her deeper songs that doesn’t rely on sex appeal. Skylar’s voice was piercing throughout as she continues to slay those hooks. Always great to see the next A-list single she’s involved in.
UPDATE: The studio version of “Start A Fire” can be heard here.
More 2014 AMAs Performances by Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith & A$AP Rocky, Ariana Grande & The Weeknd, and Fergie with YG & DJ Mustard.
Added Mary J. Blige “Therapy”, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande performing “Bang Bang”, and Iggy Azalea & J. Lo with “Booty” to close it out. Yup, this song closed it out. #JusSayin
Also debuted tonight: more of the “Guts Over Fear” video that drops in full tomorrow (or maybe with tonight’s midnight release of Shady XV) and Waka Flocka stars in a humorous commercial for Pine Bros. cough drops. I would rather watch this 5x than Fergie’s performance once.
Looks like we know what Wayne does on his “Off Day”, ha! You’ll catch the drift as Lil Wayne continues in sometimes graphic detail below. It’s classic Wayne pushing the envelope with shock value, but that’s not always the Wayne I gravitate towards. A rapper named Flow earns the feature for this preview of Carter V Pt. 1 — set for a December 9th release. Produced by X-Fyle.
#CarterVSeason will officially run all the way through summer and into the fall as Weezy unveils Tha Carter V artwork and release date today. Seems like the perfect amount of time to let the Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour ride out and the buzz on the current singles and more to keep rising.
That’s a great segue into a Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour update — the two brought out 50 Cent in Hartford last night, who performed his international #1 hit “In Da Club” for ole times sake.
Finally, in his weekly vlog, Wayne adds his name to the list of people doing the ice bucket challenge you’ve undoubtedly seen on Facebook. Great stuff.
