Malik Yusef talks first Kanye x Common collab

Saving the best for last tonight: Malik Yusef sat down with Beats by Dre in their headquarters for a fascinating interview/story about the first time Kanye West and Common appeared together on a record.

It was for Malik’s “Wouldn’t You Like To Ride” that was featured on the Coach Carter soundtrack (ahh, good high school memories) and the story behind it will make ‘Ye fans blush. Kanye was bold and self-confident in selling the beat to Malik and the final product is a feel-good Chicago jam still today (along with these visuals.)

Flat out, this is a quick, must-see interview above.

Common in Suicide Squad (First Look)

We’ve known now that Common is in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, but we still don’t know who he’ll play.

Today’s first look paparazzi pics of Common on the set give us an indication though. It won’t be the rumored character of Aquaman’s enemy, Black Manta, but THR suggests he’ll play Tattooed Man (believe it or not) based on the photos. Bronze Tiger is another speculated option.

RZA to direct new ‘Spoken Word’ film

RZA’s newest film endeavor will involve more artists from the hip hop world and is directly connected to spoken word.

That’s because RZA is set to direct the film titled… wait for it… Spoken Word. Azealia Banks is set for the lead character, Coco, with Common and Jill Scott reportedly to star too. Here’s the premise, from the IMDB page. Sounding good!

Banks will play a fiery 20-something female rapper named Coco. Set in Brooklyn, the film documents her struggles in pursuing a career in hip-hop, while also attempting to fulfill her parent’s expectations of finishing college. Having returned to school, Coco soon discovers the vivid world and ultimate power of the spoken word, where she finds her one true voice and an unlikely love in the classroom.

NBA “The Greatest Endings” narrated by Common

It’s masterfully edited with some of the league’s most memorable Finals moments so sit back and feel the nostalgia. Directed by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and set to hit your TVs tonight as the Eastern Conference Finals tip off in Atlanta.

Who ya got? Warriors over Cavs, like me? Let me know if you think otherwise: @gowherehiphop

Common narrates new NBA commercial

Nothin’ too crazy, but well-done nonetheless.

The NBA just released a new spot with Common narrating once again. This one features the trio of thrilling buzzer beaters from this past weekend. I love reliving the Rose shot, but the LeBron shot noooot as much. Haha.

Met Gala Fashion

The biggest celebrities in the most elaborate formal wear. Here’s quite the gallery featuring KimYe, The Carters, Common, John Legend & Chrissy Teigen, Rihanna, Cassie & Diddy, FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson, Dwyane Wade & Gabrielle Union, Justin Bieber, Solange, and oh yeah J. Lo. Based on the Twitter volume I perused, Beyonce seems to be the big winner and I agree, she definitely killed. Also that Wizard of Oz meme on Rihanna’s dress. So it’s a draw.

Also, lowkey this is perfect.
