Nothin’ too crazy, but well-done nonetheless.
The NBA just released a new spot with Common narrating once again. This one features the trio of thrilling buzzer beaters from this past weekend. I love reliving the Rose shot, but the LeBron shot noooot as much. Haha.
The biggest celebrities in the most elaborate formal wear. Here’s quite the gallery featuring KimYe, The Carters, Common, John Legend & Chrissy Teigen, Rihanna, Cassie & Diddy, FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson, Dwyane Wade & Gabrielle Union, Justin Bieber, Solange, and oh yeah J. Lo. Based on the Twitter volume I perused, Beyonce seems to be the big winner and I agree, she definitely killed. Also that Wizard of Oz meme on Rihanna’s dress. So it’s a draw.
Also, lowkey this is perfect.
The big roles for Common on the big screen continue to flow in, none perhaps with more potential than his casting in the upcoming Warner Bros. action movie, Suicide Squad, after the DC comic book series. The movie already has some star power on lock — Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Cara Delevingne, among others.
So, will we see Common as a super-villain? Though not sure of his role yet, the plot will supposedly center around the squad, a group of imprisoned villains recruited by a government agency to perform covert operations.

Wow, look at this news. Spike Lee x Chiraq?!
Now, I’m not a fan of declaring our great city Chiraq due to the gun violence that’s been well-documented over the past few years especially. But I accept that it’s been a part of the culture too and if Spike Lee is going to make a film about it, I think he would be the right guy. (At least a right guy.) Let’s see where he goes with this (and even if the title will hold up?)
The news today came via the Chicago Tribune and The Wrap, who additionally reported that Spike is seeking to cast Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Piven, and none other than Kanye West & Common. This, this would also be cool. Story developing…
The Chicago Tribune reports that Lee was in Chitown back in January conducting research with the help of St. Sabina pastor Rev. Michael Pfleger.
“Thanks to Director/Actor Spike Lee,” Pfleger wrote on his Facebook page. “Who spent the day at St. Sabina yesterday talking and interviewing….People who cover the violence, Principals who deal with violence in and around their schools, Brothers from the Blocks who live in it every day and Parents who have lost their children to Violence…..He spent the day from early morning till late in the night….listening and asking questions to try and get a deeper understanding of the plague of violence. Thanks Spike for caring and wanting to understand.”
As a bonus, passing this along via this XXL story as well.
‘Ye recently moved from his longtime agent Cara Lewis and CAA to United Talent Agency (UTA). He’s reportedly looking to increase his profile in the feature world. He had a cameo in Anchorman 2 and has a role in Ben Stiller‘s Zoolander sequel. Common recently won an Oscar for best original song with “Glory” for the movie Selma. He also co-stars in Jaume Collet-Serra’s new movie Run All Night. He is repped by CAA.
(And oh yeah… of course I had to hit ya with the appropriate #TBT photo down below.)
I was waiting for video of this and boy, am I not disappointed.
The Lip Sync Battle between Common and John Legend took place last night and seemingly everyone was tweeting about it while I was watching some Warriors-Suns. Beside the point, Common and Legend went ALL OUT.
Dances, costumes, grills, just about everything you can think of for the friendly battle.
First, here’s Common “I Want You Back” vs. John Legend “Slow Motion”. What song choices.
Here’s Common break dancing as Lionel Richie for the next battle… forreal, wow. That’s growing up in Chi-City for ya.
Then Legend channeled some MC Hammer “Running Man” and had help from his wife Chrissy Teigen. This is pitted against Common’s “All Night Long” by Lionel Richie. I didn’t think a full on Lip Sync Battle (on Spike TV btw) could work as a show but at least with the “Glory” duo, it did. Watch above and below ICYMI.
