Tonight, Derrick Rose’s official documentary premiered via live stream on Stadium and for any Chicago basketball fan, any D. Rose fan… or really, just any fan of anyone who has triumphed above a lot, Pooh is a must-see doc.
The clip above is one of the many powerful moments of Rose’s journey as the cameras were filming him the moment he received the call from his agent (and former Bulls great) B.J. Armstrong that he was traded to the New York Knicks in the summer of 2016. It’s viral now and has resonated with everyone who can see his emotion and passion for his hometown city.
The doc also did an amazing job showing never before seen footage like this throughout all the stages of Derrick’s life. On one hand, we all knew how hard Rose had it growing up in Englewood, but that was driven home even further at the beginning of the doc. Rose had days where he didn’t even have a nickel to buy a piece of candy at the store so instead he just ate spoonfuls of powdered sugar (while watching Power Rangers – nice choice!)
We also get a fresh perspective from Rose, teammate Joakim Noah, Tom Thibodeau, John Paxson, and various Chicago writers about the polarizing divide of waning favoritism towards Rose in Chicago. This, during the seasons he struggled to come back from injuries and didn’t communicate articulately to the media whose own spin of the narrative fueled the divide even more.
Alas, the stirring doc brought back some much pleasant nostalgia as the Rose Era Bulls were my favorite basketball team since the Jordan years, and Rose being my favorite player to this day. It also recalled our own fortunes of covering a couple of Derrick Rose’s shoe releases both before and after his ACL injury. Some b-roll footage even caught co-founder Maks G at one of these events (head to our instagram) so I felt it was right we add to the #TBT/#FBF fun below.
D. Rose: Chicago legend forever. (Come back this summer?!)

Winter 2011: D Rose 2.0 Shoe Release @ State St. Foot Locker
On the heels of adidas’ biggest off-season acquisition (James Harden at $200 million), they release official images and release dates for Derrick Rose’s 6th signature shoe — the adidas #DRose6.
As you can see above, the Bulls colors take to the forefront for the away version with the home mixing white and silver. I dig the look of these much more than last year’s 5’s and it’s especially cool to see them in context of the city or Derrick’s own foot in the Instagrams below. The up close detail shots are key too and it looks like a shoe to hold in person and really get a feel for it.
The Home drops October 15th and the Away drops November 5th. Creators never stop. *nods head*
With little basketball news to discuss, we spend far too much time talking about an upcoming 3 on 3 basketball tournament, baseball hats, and Geno Smith. Somewhere in this episode, we do offer our reactions to self-proclaimed point guard Jimmy Butler, Derrick Rose not on Team USA, and the Bulls’ schedule.

TIBS EDIT: I’ll be participating in this 3-on-3 tourney too this weekend. Mitch & E, see you in the Finals!
FOH shoe leaks!
Probably not what D. Rose and adidas were thinking exactly, but after some rumored looks at Rose’s 6th signature shoe hit the web recently, Rose himself revealed a sleek black/red colorway on his Facebook.
Pretty sweet photo, first and foremost, and it’s cool to see the overall aesthetic continue to look much different than its predecessor. I wasn’t a fan of the 5’s look as much and holding on my full praise til I see the 6 in person or on the court. Either way, a cool first step and hopefully the shoes will aid Rose and the Bulls to the promised land this season! (That’s most important!)
“Creators never stop.”
(I dig that, adidas.)
It’s with good reason to believe these leaked images of the adidas D Rose 6 Boost are legit in the gallery above.
Sole Collector got their hands on the Christmas colorway and astutely point out the Statue of Liberty esque mint green and copper. I dig the two together and will further speculate that the Bulls will visit MSG at Christmas in 6 months? I wonder if the companies collaborate on that.
But whatever the case, I also included previous leaked looks at other colorways of the Rose 6. You’ll notice a radical aesthetic change to the shoe compared to last year’s model (and all of Rose’s models, in fact) so it’s good to see adidas pushing it again. I wasn’t a fan of the 5 too much and though the 6 doesn’t quite move the needle, I do believe this will look great on the court and on TV. Weird to see what you can interpret as four stripes for an adidas shoe too, btw. Lookin’ forward to the official images though and what marketing campaign Rose and Team adidas will be leading this time around…
In the new video for “Feeling Myself”, Beyonce flaunts a Derrick Rose Bulls swimsuit. She’s #1.
EDIT: There were enough photos, both screencaps and official BTS pics, to make a gallery up above. Scroll below for a few good captions/memes.
I guess that’s the first thing that jumped out at me as a Bulls fan, but perhaps for you, it’ll be that Nicki and Bey are eating burgers together and showing off a fun, lighthearted side in the new visual.
Oh, but really the first thing that jumps out is that the video is exclusive to TIDAL, once again. They’ve been taking down the rips of the video, but I seen’t it before they did. EDIT: Got a new rip up below. It’s pretty fun seeing the two superstars do normal BFF things (like share Now & Laters, which was my favorite even though I prefer Jolly Ranchers.)
Below are a few more screens from the vid, a quick snippet, the official teaser, and those aforementioned memes.
