Vince Staples & Tyler The Creator made their way to the Hot 97 studios to talk with Peter Rosenberg and no doubt that’s an entertaining combo. Below is their freestyle and Vince chats with Peter. Plus, Tyler chats with Ebro for an hour. If you got the time, run it all in the background below.
Ahh, the first in-depth Kendrick Lamar interview. The album is coming… you can feel it. One big pub after another as Kendrick above, sits down with Ebro & Rosenberg for Hot 97 to talk for 30 minutes on just about everything. They reflect on “Control” and the Macklemore text, talk about the current happenings with “i”, and of course, get whatever they can about the upcoming new music. Let this run in the background above, all the way through the end. Kendrick talks some real passionate, positive stuff the last 5 minutes or so.
In an engaging, revealing sit-down with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning, Lecrae revealed a shocking story of being molested as a child. That takes some bravery to admit in the macho rap world, but Lecrae’s never quite fit the stereotype anyway. He also talks openly about his Christian beliefs in addition to the great success of his new #1 album, Anomaly. Even stay tuned for a freestyle above.
You may have noticed the site has been stagnant for the last couple of days. We were in the midst of some site updates and couldn’t update you on the latest and greatest during the start of this second week of September. Never fear, here’s your rundown of just Monday’s new content below (Tuesday is linked below too.)
My favorite segment of the 3 — Gambino rocks a smooth freestyle over HS87’s buzzing summer single and confirms that Chance collab EP in the process. Jhene Aiko talks about Gambino himself amongst other topics including her debut album, Souled Out, (out now!). And finally, Raury does something different after a nearly 20 minute sit down with Hot 97 — an acoustic cover of Kanye’s “Blood on the Leaves”, in which he also adds a new verse of his own. Fresh. And it would only sound better in the studio, methinks.

Jhene Aiko not only stopped by Angie Martinez this week but also EBro in the Morning on Hot 97 with Rosenberg & Laura Stylez. The half hour sit down touches on a number of topics from the new album, Souled Out, (out Tuesday) and how she actually met frequent collaborators/rumored boyfriends (but they’re not) — Childish Gambino & Drake. Those stories were pretty cool. Jhene also talks about past experiences (signing a deal at age 12, the loss of her brother at only age 26) as EBro and the humorous Rosenberg keep things moving for an entertaining, long discussion.
G-Unit galore in this post. First up above is the new video for “Watch Me”. They’ve also done the NYC promo run a la Jhene Aiko in the post up above and sat down with The Breakfast Club and Hot 97. Both those interviews are below, along with a new Funkmaster Flex freestyle.
Lupe Fiasco sat down with EBro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez of Hot 97 to discuss a bevy of topics across 35 minutes. The great part about it: it’s all music talk.
First, the new single “Mission” – where the inspiration came from (started by his grandmother’s passing due to cancer) and what doors it has opened to organizations Lupe is now working with. Along the way, Lupe revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming album, Tetsuo & Youth including for the first time saying he’s got multiple collabs with fan-favorite Nikki Jean for the album. And yes, that’s collabs with an ‘s’. Stoked for their sounds to combine once again. Plus, Lu hints that the next single may be the Ty Dolla $ign-featured “Everything Look Better With A Bitch Next To It”, which is already the most eye-catching title off Tetsuo & Youth.
While we stay tuned for more new music, we can also hear Lu’s current mindframe toward hip hop, namely his respect for Kendrick Lamar & TDE (though he doesn’t go as far as Rosenberg the “nut-hugger”, ha!) and for the following emcees: Young Thug, MF Doom, King Los, Logic, Cassidy, Hollow Da Don, Joe Budden, and AZ. Most notably, Lupe says MF Doom is the best lyricist and that King Los and Logic are better than Kendrick – a comment that gets Rosenberg (and probably you reading this too) all up in arms. It’s hard to type that last sentence with proper context so I suggest before jumping to anything to hear the words from the man himself in the latter third of the interview. Press play and let it run, you will certainly enjoy – especially if you’re a fan of trolling as much as I am… because there’s a lot of it. Ha!
