Kanye talks Beck, Yeezy Boost, more

Kanye chopped it up with Ryan Seacrest this morning for an extensive interview in the wake of his latest Grammys moment and ‘Ye cleared things up very well about what he was thinking and what he was trying to convey. You’ll hear him say it was a bad choice of words on his part when he said Beck should respect artistry. He further calls the Grammys a joke and also notes they’re musician’s Super Bowl. Plus, a great anecdote about Taylor Swift coming up to him immediately after the Beck incident and now they’re even talkin about getting in the studio.

“I felt that even though the Grammys some times gives awards to people who you wouldn’t think should win in the category, as a respect to artists, we mention the other artist’s name in our speech. And that was the point I was making about it. There’s like many of times I gave other people my award, literally made them come up onstage. Maroon 5, when they won best new artist, [Adam Levine] mentioned me because it was the College Dropout and [it had] 10 nominations and all that.”

More Grammys talk: ‘Ye wants to sit with the Grammys committee to discuss voting changes and won’t be back until he is able to do so. Nice, there’s a lesson to people to not just stop at acknowledging an issue but offering to propose a solution too.

For those who care more about the Yeezy Boost, first and foremost the shoe comes out Saturday. Kanye also apologized that everyone won’t be able to get them right away (9,000 will be available at $350) but does say that over time, everyone who will want Yeezys will have ’em and that’s what he’s all about. Phew! Lastly, Kanye will be streaming his adidas x Yeezy collection presentation to 40 worldwide locations and will have 10 presentations total so more people in Brooklyn and around the world can see the experience.

Listen up above for even more small tidbits on how “FourFiveSeconds” came together and more. Nice interview by ‘Ye.

Beyonce, Common, John Legend Grammys 2015

Loved how the Grammys closed this year as Beyonce, followed by Common & John Legend took to the stages of stages to spread awareness and uplift mankind. Beyonce performed, not one of her hits, but “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” gospel style with her own #HandsUpDontShoot moment up above.

It was the perfect prelude to Common & John Legend’s Oscar-nominated “Glory”, which was accompanied by a full orchestra and choir. Man, that orchestra really added some more power to it. I also appreciated the subtle mannerisms of Common when he stood without touching the mic for the first verse and then became more animated for the second verse that looks ahead. Perfect. Everything about everything here was perfect, in fact.

Kanye almost Taylor Swifts Beck

Kanye being Kanye.

/I love how ‘Taylor Swifts’ is the appropriate verb here.

/The backstory: Beck beat out Beyonce, amongst others, for Album of the Year.

/Who else lost it? Hahahaha.

Also… Hov & Bey went from 0 to 100 real quick…

UPDATE: Kanye reveals in a post-show interview with E! that Beck should have given his award to Beyonce. Seriously. So it wasn’t a total playful joke, but still a great moment. Let Ye make his point in the full video below. I get where he’s coming from but I don’t know much about Beck personally, but apparently he’s not the best example of what Kanye is talking about. Irregardless, I would just love to hear more from ‘Ye on the topic of the Grammys and respecting artistry.

Other highlights from this interview: Kanye upset at the design and taste level across networks (like the E! boxes), his genuine respect for Sam Smith, and calling Jay Z’s reaction above the ‘Meme of the Year’. Ha! No one can argue with him on that at least.

When you keep on diminishing art, and disrespecting art, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.

UPDATE 2: Here’s Beck’s response to everything, via US Weekly. And Kanye shedding some clarity when he landed in NYC, via TMZ.

“I was just so excited he was coming up. [West] deserves to be onstage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?” The alt-rock icon also confirmed he wasn’t offended by the rapper’s post-Grammy comments: “I thought she was going to win. Come on, she’s Beyonce! . . . You can’t please everybody, man. I still love [West] and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

After being asked by a reporter if he intended to imply that Beck wasn’t an “artist,” the rapper said, “I wasn’t saying Beck; I said the Grammys. Beck knows that Beyoncé should have won; you know that.” When asked if he had even heard of Beck “before yesterday,” West added, “Come on, man. I love Beck! But he didn’t have the Album of the Year.”

FourFiveSeconds Grammys 2015

Donning matching all-black, here’s Rihanna, Sir Paul, and Kanye performing their new single with a similar vibe and backdrop to the video. I liked this look, and silhouette, live more than in the music video. The hook is addicting and by the end, the Staples Center crowd and the artists in the front row were clapping along (always cool). Fellas, this may be a guilty pleasure song but hey, Kanye’s involved and he added his usual flair to the performance too.

I guess one knock: was McCartney’s mic on or was he just lip-synching along? Same with his guitar? I thought he was purposefully lip synching… just repeating the words really since he doesn’t sing on the actual song. What did you think?

Usher & Stevie Wonder Grammys 2015

One of the Grammy surprises tonight was Stevie Wonder himself as he came out at the end of Usher’s “Is It Magic” tribute to him to play some harmonica and bring in some good vibes.
