The annual Andre 3000 verse is an awesome one

The new James Blake album dropped but I, like many hip hop heads, gravitated to a track featuring… oh, you know, the annual new feature from Andre 3000. In fact, it was @hetalbot (my co-content creator from the Yasiin Bey show the other day) who put me onto this almost instantly after Assume Form dropped in full at midnight.

3K puts down a fast flow and you can visualize his head spinning as he questions how a flourishing relationship seems too good to be true (the theme of the whole song.) Witty wordplay ensues so press play and then flow with the rest of the dark R&B vibes from James Blake. I’m in progress at posting time myself. (He produced this song brilliantly too by the way.)

James Blake confirms Kanye on new album

It’s been no secret that Kanye has named James Blake as one of his favorite artists and current influences. It looks like we’ll finally have an album collab from the two, as confirmed by Blake himself in a new interview with Esquire that leaked to Reddit. Blake also reveals Justin Vernon will be on the album too.

“I can confirm that they’re on it. Kanye—I’m with him today. We’d already started on something…today we should nail something down. If it doesn’t end up on the album you know it hasn’t worked.”

Needless to say, looking forward to hearing the final product on Radio Silence.

James Blake plans Kanye collab for next album

Kanye‘s affinity for James Blake‘s music has been well-documented, so this tidbit is not as surprising as it is exciting. The latter is planning for a Kanye West collaboration for his new album, so let’s hope it happens sometime in 2015. Via the Miami News Times:

“I have a lot of respect for [Kanye], for what he has been releasing for years. We haven’t done a great deal of work in the same room yet, but we’ve done a few things, kind of helped each other with our own music. In terms of the actual collaboration for this record, it looks like we should be able to get something done. I know that there’s a specific song I would like him to be on, and if he can do that by the time my record comes out, that would be fantastic.”

James Blake “200 Press”

James Blake has been turnin’ heads and turntables on another level in the past year — catching the ear of some of music’s biggest names from Kanye & Drake to Chance The Rapper. Today, he premieres a new song called “200 Press”, which he says he titled it because only 200 of them will be pressed. The new tune was premiered as part of his 2-hour long, live DJ residency on BBC.

Listen to James Blake “200 Press” at the 31 min. mark here.

I admire the fresh sound — it’s definitely different than much of anything else out (especially for my ears since there’s so much hip hop I’m primarily rockin’). That said, while I vibe with the first minute (especially right at the 32 min. mark) I can only see myself feelin’ the rest in a live, festival setting. Give it a stream for yourself above!
