Rick Ross f/ R. Kelly “Keep Doin That”

Rick Ross & R. Kelly link back up for the video to their new single — appearing on the former’s upcoming album, Hood Billionaire. I also noticed cameos by DJ Khaled & Jermaine Dupri on “Keep Doin That”. Is it me though or is this just more of the same?

QuESt “Struggle Rapper” f/ Melat

QuESt continues his weekly releases en route to Searching Sylvan and “Struggle Rapper” also continues with the personal, storytelling theme of the project thus far. After winning a contest hosted by Jermaine Dupri, QuESt dives into his mindset at the lowest point of his career. It’s a never-ending stream of consciousness across a brooding beat by Wish Lade & 6ix. No hooks. Just the story. And I co-sign tracks like this if they’re well-executed like “Struggle Rapper” is. It’s hard not to feel engaged by the story and then rise to inspiration given QuESt’s momentum to break through as a rapper. I tried not to get caught up in the flow because I don’t think it was QuESt’s intention to fluidly ride with the beat the entire time. It’s all about the lyrics so lend a close ear below.

Jagged Edge “Hope”

The return of Jagged Edge?!

Yup, R&B fans, the group is coming together for a new album, ‘J.E. Heartbreak Too’ executive produced by Jermaine Dupri. “Hope” is the first offering, a new single written by Brian Casey, Brandon Casey and Bryan Michael Cox.

Mariah Carey Lands Billboard Cover

There was a point in time where I didn’t believe Mariah Carey’s upcoming 14th album was coming out. I labeled this album a myth because all Carey was supplying fans with was false hope. With several delays and single mishaps, Carey had me worried she was competing for Ashanti’s record, which is the most postponed album of all time. But, as of today full hope has been restored, as Carey has exclusively revealed to Billboard she will be taking the surprise approach with the release of the album.

Mariah herself will reveal her album’s title, artwork, track listing, and music all at once via a soon-to-be-announced digital partner. Carey herself explains why she will be taking the ‘Beyoncé’ surprise route.

“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Carey says, noting that the album takes its name from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”

Mariah is also aware of the recent string of single releases that failed to compete with her previous hits.

“You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work,” she says. “This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here’s the album.”

So what can fans expect to hear? Billboard says big ballads and uptempo bangers. Mariah Carey’s full cover story with Billboard will be posted this coming Monday.

I don’t think the word excited correctly explains how I am feeling, because it’s beyond that. Knowing Carey and what she is capable of, this body of work for this project will be nothing short of amazing. The currently untitled album will be released May 6 (or before – who knows). Carey will have productions from Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, Hit – Boy, Big Jim Wright, and Mike Will Made It, plus features from Wale, Nas, and a surprise guest she will not reveal.

What is Mariah Carey Doing??

Rumor mills are forming a cloud of anticipation yet uncertainty around Mariah Carey & her upcoming LP, which is still scheduled for a May 6 release date.

Despite the diva’s last single “You’re Mine (Eternal)” peaking at a bleak #88 on the Hot 100, it seems as if Ms. Carey is still giving the green light with this project. Last year, her collaboration with Miguel on “#Beautiful” reached Platinum status, peaked at #15 on the charts & was received warmly by critics.

Lately, Mariah fans have taken to twitter to vent their frustrations with the diva’s team. Jeramine Dupri (her manager) in particular, throwing accusations that they are not handling her properly in regards to this upcoming LP. No track listing, cover, title or anything has been released about the LP.. All we know is “May 6th”

As a Mariah fan, I can’t help but be excited.. yet nervous. What is she doing? What’s going on? How is this album going to sell with no lead single making considerable impact on the charts at the moment?

Only time will tell. Until then, we will watch to see if Mariah can do it yet again. I believe she can.
