The SaveMoney Army has been churning out hits and providing a platform of success for each of its members. We have grown accustomed to the unique sounds each SaveMoney has provided as the city of Chicago continues its support of the city’s most prolific Hip-Hop stable. The latest SaveMoney member to headline Metro was none other than Towkio, accompanied by DJ Spinn and Kehlani. This event was truly a passing of the torch-like event and Gowhere was there to provide some highlights that are shown below.
The Bay-area songstress rocked the crowd from beginning to end with her R&B and Hip-Hop fused lyrics that made the most unfamiliar follower of her music become instantly invested in her sound. Her set was hot! It was a mix of the sexualized lyrics accompanied by backup dancers that left a jaw dropping impression on the Chicago listeners. Kehlani made it perfectly clear that she is one of the fastest rising R&B upstarts in the country for a reason and her music and vision of where she is headed are perfectly in tune with her ambition and relentless dedication to her fans.

How That Taste
All eyes were of SaveMoney’s Towkio as the Mexican-Japanese emcee headlined Metro for the first time and he surely did not disappoint. The world was at his feet and crowds rocked and echoed to every tune as Towkio showcased the greatness behind his full length debut project, WAV Theory. His set began with his most familiar and polarizing track “I Know You” that put him on the map as an undiscovered soloist finding his identity and culminated with bringing out his SaveMoney brethren Chance The Rapper to close off the show with his his “Heaven Only Knows” that also features Eryn Allen Kane. That wasn’t just it. Throughout his set Towkio brought out various SaveMoney members such as Joey Purp and Kami De Chukwu to perform “God In Me”, amongst other Leather Corduroys gems.

The show was very energetic from start to finish and showcased how much passion Towkio indeed has towards his craft and his fans. It was very emotional and reflectional for the Chicago emcee as he was able to look back and see how far he has come and how much he has grown in the 2 year process behind the creation of his project. Most importantly, at the end of the show fans left with the reminder that Towkio has emerged as one of SaveMoney’s brightest artists and that as he continues to release music will his legacy continue to grow within our city’s music scene.
The good folks of JUGNAUT have launched the release of their spring/summer 2015 collection and to coincide with the release have released a cypher showcasing some of the store’s biggest supporters with ShowYouSuck, Logan, Kami de Chukwu, and Joey Purps all flexing their lyrical muscles.
Tis the season of new music in 2015 and staking its claim for Chicago is Joey Purps & Kami De Chukwu with their new project under the Leather Corduroys name.
They start it out with a new feature from Chance The Rapper that fits best within the context of what’s to follow. The likes of Peter CottonTale and Thelonious Martin contribute on the production side for a solid, fresh energy listen as you dive into new music this weekend.
Vic Mensa’s homecoming show lived up to the hype. The sold out show was a memorable showcase by all that formed part from beginning to end and left much anticipation of what is expected from the young emcee’s forthcoming EP Streetlights. Highlights from the show are below in order.
The Treated Crew producer/DJ kicked off the show with a phenomenal showcase of his production credits as well as played some exclusive never before heard tracks that he and Childish Gambino have been working on. His DJ showcase left audiences wanting more for his unique ability to blend some juke and house music.
If you didn’t know Leather Corduroys [Joey & Kami] they wasted NO TIME in introducing themselves to new and old listeners. The Save Money duo gave us intensity and energy throughout their showcase and brought the house down with their banger “Irie Trill Vibes”.

Vashtie Kola was in attendance at Vic’s show and DJ’s a set. For those that don’t know Va$htie, she is a New York based director, filmmaker, artist, designer, and creative consultant extraordinaire. She is also the first female designer of the Jordan brand shoe. Her set consisted of golden age 1980-early 90’s NYC based Hip-Hop.
DJ Oreo, Vic and Chance the Rapper’s DJ did a great job hyping up the crowd for Vic Mensa, continuously building up momentum for the arrival of Vic on stage.
Vic Mensa was lights out phenomenal in her homecoming performance at Metro. The prolific Save Money emcee and XXL Freshmen had his audience holding on to his words as he performed some of his most popular tracks off INNANETAPE and some exclusive new material off his forthcoming project Sreetlights EP. The most memorable cameo was Chance The Rapper coming out to spit his verse for Suitcase. Vic Mensa closed off his show with an encore performance of “Feel That” that brought down the crowd as he capped off his phenomenal performance for the night. The Save Money army leader definitely shined bright in his night of glory and reminded us how much our Chicago youth has been doing to claim back our streets through empowering music.
