Last night the #BieberRoast flat out lived up to the hype.
Justin Bieber bravely sat through an hour-plus of getting roasted by some of today’s biggest and up and coming comics like Kevin Hart (who played roastmaster) and SNL’s youngest cast member Pete Davidson… as well as Snoop Dogg, Shaq, and Ludacris. No knock on them because all 3 were actually really good, as was… really, everyone.
It’s been awhile since I’ve actually seen a roast and I didn’t remember how much the roasters roasted each other. That was just as enjoyable as when Bieber was the target.
But if I had to hand out the trophy, I’d go with Chicago’s own Hannibal Buress. No hometown bias, but he just kept it 100 and the results were fantastic.
There was one surprise roaster (who I won’t ruin) that was a great addition to the bill and to his credit as well, Justin Bieber actually had a lot of great zingers when he got a chance to say the last word. Finally, throughout you can also catch glimpses of some celebs in the audience like some of the Jenner-Kardashian clan, Chris Paul, Jaden Smith, and John Legend & Chrissy Teigen.
As I said, it really lived up to the hype. Enjoy the full video and some clips if you’re on the go.

The hip hop on Late Night continues this week as this time The Roots are paired with Ludacris, who debuts “Grass Is Always Greener” off the upcoming album, Ludaversal. Bonus note: “Grass Is Always Greener” is produced by Chicago’s own Da Internz.
6 new joints from Ludacris as the Burning Bridges EP delivers with a few A-list features like Rick Ross, Cee-Lo Green, John Legend, and Miguel. Even though he saw his hometown team beat our hometown team earlier tonight in person, we can still show Luda and the ATL some love, amirite?

I like the merging of styles here. With a John Legend feature, I expected a lyrical Luda and he exceeded expectations below. “In My Life” really goes into Luda’s life as he raps about the current frustrations caused from the outside and other facts that quell all the rumors (like he’s single and is not having money problems). I enjoyed the 3rd verse the most with Luda mixing in some anecdotes from Jay Z, for example, and delivering his slickest punchline right after. The jazzy production and soulful Legend on the hook create a dope, somewhat blues-y vibe to the record. It’s not sad, but has the right reflective tone that works well with what Luda’s saying.
So all that said, it’s one to at least appreciate and a *Tibs Fav. from me. Burning Bridges is less than a week away: December 16th.
Here’s a peak at the tracklist to the upcoming Ludacris EP, Burning Bridges, due for a December 16th release. As you can see from track 01, it’ll be a “New Beginning” for Luda after a long hiatus away from music. He also has some A-list features lined up for the 6-track project and now I’m a lil more fired up for it.
No pun intended. Cover art by DONDA’s Joe Perez.
