The trio of Supa Bwe, Carl, and Mulatto Beats have been working relentlessly to show why they are among some of the most dedicated artists in the city of Chicago and their labor of love has now come to fruition. Their debut project “Hurt Everybody EP” is a 14 track compilation that features the likes of Alex Wiley, Kembe X, Iman Shumpert, XVRHLDY, Saba and Mick Jenkins. Outside of Hurt Everybody, the project also features also features production from ZenZan Beats and Smoko Ono. The trio is here to undermine a culture in Chicago Hip-Hop that has glorified the negatives in our city in their attempt to create awareness around their brand and empower the masses through powerful music.
Mick Jenkins and Hurt Everybody’s Supa BWE deliver power and emotion on “Treat Me (Caucasian)”. Not only is the track a social commentary but also creates thought provoking discussion around race and privilege. I definitely appreciate this track and you will too as it will form part of the Hurt Everybody EP that is dropping July 4th!
I remember having gone to the CIMM Fest hosted by Closed Sessions and watching the mini-documentary “Realer Than Most” and standing in amazement to what was going to be unleashed in the future. The future is now for many Chicago artists as they’ve kept it “Realer Than Most” as Mick Jenkins, Dally Austin, Noname Gypsy, and Saba unite forces on a powerful track produced by OnGaud. Salute to all participating parties for this track! More on the collaboration below and documentary below.
Chicago’s winter was especially brutal in 2014, yet in stark contrast, our Hip Hop scene has been on fire. On the coldest day of the year we assembled an all-star cast of Mick Jenkins, Dally Auston, NoName Gypsy, Saba and producers OnGaud at SoundScape Studio for a special Closed Session.
While this group of emcees and producers have been friends for a long time, and worked together in the past, this session was their first time all working together simultaneously on one song. The result is “Realer Than Most” a dope new cut from our newest compilation, Closed Sessions Vol. 3 releasing soon.
Chicago lyrical savant Mick Jenkins brings you something soulful and something you can feel and vibe to as he cleanses your musical soul with his holy water. His latest release “Fresh Water” is a laid-back track to absorb as he delivers his upcoming project The Water[s] real soon.
Happy Birthday to the homie Alex Wiley and congratulations on the release of your second project “Village Party”! The project is Alex’s sophomore follow-up to “Club Wiley”, which he released in 2013. Village Party is a 14 track project that includes incredible features from Mick Jenkins and Kembe X as well as production from Hippie Sabatage, Stefan Ponce, Odd Couple, ThemPeople, Blev, among others. The tribe has spoken, VILLAGE Up!
