Another strong Chicago release today comes from Neak with the new visual to one of his XIII standouts “Friends & Strangers”. I like this video, directed by longtime collaborator APJ Films, for its real look into the grind of an upcoming artist who has a family to support amidst the changing rap climate. The variety of scenes around the city add to the concept’s depth and this is all on top of the strong lyricism and technical display heard on the audio. Neak mixes in slick references like Twista’s “Overnight Celebrity” or the fallen MC Proof, both used not as punchlines but to add depth. The soulful jazzy production by Mulatto Patriot feels like this record should be juxtaposed to some late 80s Michael Jordan video too. As you can see, I approve of this one in all aspects. Easy *Tibs Fav. and one you should press play on above.
It’s always a lyrical affair when these three join forces and “AMILLIPLUS” is nothing new from Sincerely Yours, Slot-A, and Neak. I love the simple fact of feeling like a million… plus. That’s right, a million is not enough. Ha!
In all seriousness, all three Chicago emcees do their thing with the man who helms the track altogether: Sincerely Yours possessing my favorite verse. The ‘c’ alliteration, amongst more to come, is very slick. The video, directed by APJ Films, is a simple look at the three spittin’ their rhymes. For instance, you see Slot-A donning a nice throwback Cubs jersey.
When you think of “A Milli”, you think of an in-his-prime Lil Wayne spazzing out for a whirlwind of solid lyrics and clever punchlines. Keeping that in mind, we get some intelligent wordplay and an equal amount of spazzing from Chicago’s Sincerely Yours & Neak on “A Milli Plus”. The stage is first set by another nice production from Slot-A — one that makes you want to raise your fist in the air. As this week has been laden with dope music videos, this is one song that stands out amongst them. Download below and don’t sleep.
Neak’s new free album XIII features the usual suspects (frequent collaborators Slot-A, Rashid Hadee, Mulatto Patriot, and J-Rell) and *Tibs Fav. previews like “Do What We Love” and “The Kids”. Dive into the 11 track project, accompanied by 7 bonus cuts for even more raw Chicago hip hop.
