Sometimes I don’t wanna be alone..
Combat any late night loneliness blues with the new single from Nikki Lynette “Sometimes”, off her upcoming EP, Respect My Disrespect. The versatile Chicago artist goes R&B for this one, revealing a story that we can all relate to when we feel alone and/or vulnerable.
The video is a special collaboration with Rolling Stone Magazine’s Music Video School at the New York Film Academy as Nikki worked with a team of directors (Andy Buckland, Marcus Claessen, Serge Concepts, Jonathan Gasca, Trent Love, Jake Sarno, Vagner Shimamoto, & Alex Ventling). The visuals contributed to the mood of the song with a few floating objects interspersed between the camera and Nikki. Whether it’s falling flower petals or balloons, it works.
Give it a watch above, then, if you read this far, also note all of the baddass GIF-worthy moments you’ll undoubtedly catch if you look for ’em. Can we get some “Sometimes” GIFs now?
As a longtime member of #TeamBadass, I was thrilled to hear some new Nikki Lynette music late tonite, only to be accompanied by some of the coolest single art I’ve seen recently. Great effect and composition above that goes along perfectly with the song title, “Disappear”.
For the song itself, we don’t hear Lynette rapping, rather singing. She first touches on the vulnerability of being wronged in a relationship, and then flips it, saying she can “Disappear” and that he won’t have an effect on her. As a result, it’s a very empowering record that the ladies can likely draw closer parallels to, and one that the fellas can certainly appreciate. Keep it runnin’ through to the end as Nikki’s subtle additions to the last chorus to wrap up the song wonderfully.
The “alternative rock/soul ballad” is produced by Nikki Lynette, with mixing by her longtime partner-in-crime Matt Hennessy at VSOP Studios.
