Random aside: the photo above, from Drake’s IG, has OB O’Brien on stage with him in a dope throwback Shawn Kemp jersey. In high school, I wore my own throwback Shawn Kemp jersey to school one day, circa 8th grade or so, and the varsity basketball coach at my high school asked me if I knew how many illegitimate kids Shawn Kemp had fathered? I told him, no, because at the time I didn’t even know what that meant. And he basically chastised me for wearing a Shawn Kemp jersey. This is still such a distinct, unfortunate memory for me, I just had to share. Ha!
NEW OVO in the wee hours of Sunday morning as OB OBrien gets the look with Drake and P.Reign contributing on “Schemin Up”.
It’s officially new Drake but it’s not quite new for the keen Gowhere visitor this week as his verse is actually heard on the Rich Homie Quan leak. This is the intended home for that verse as Drake also provides later vocals in the hook and transitions.
Produced by Boi-1da & 40, with Matthew Burnett. Not one of my favorite beats from them but it’s a catchy one for the casual listener. Tune in here:
The video’s going upppp… just in time for Tuesday.
Makonnen & Drake were undoubtedly going to drop a visual for their summer club smash and the world’s intro to the new OVO singer. The video features a cool dim-lit club scene, naturally, with some outdoor L.A. visuals mixed in with cinematic pans of other beautiful international cities (think Rio & Sydney). Though I haven’t ate this one up like the masses, there’s still that feel-good vibe that comes with “Tuesday” and the video matches that. OVO’s Majid Jordan & OB OBrien also cameo.
BONUS: Drake related. Him and Kevin Hart hilariously jabbed back and forth on Instagram today in the fallout of the loudest airball of 2014. I gotchu below.
ICYMI: Drake’s “How About Now” leak is taken down.
Drake’s annual homecoming for OVO Fest took place last night and it wasn’t short on surprise guests. How about this for a rolodex?
J. Cole, G-Unit, Usher, YG, Tinashe, DJ Khaled, his OVO Crew: PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, and OB O’Brien, Trey Songz and even Lauryn Hill. Not in attendance: Kendrick Lamar, as you may assume, but Drake did shout him out.
The star-studded affair also included Drake “flying” above the crowd performing “Marvin’s Room”. Lowkey, I’ve always wanted to see someone perform above and with the crowd… but if I were Drake, maybe choose a song like “Started From The Bottom”? Still, very cool.
Peruse the various clips for your fix below (and the best image to come out of OVO Fest).
NEW Drake this morning as he links up with his OVO Sound partna OB OBrien for a new remix of Tinashe’s “2 On”. The DJ Mustard beat is a suitable backdrop for Drizzy, who adds a verse after OB’s and then breaks it down in the slowed-down “Thotful” part of the track. You can guess what that one becomes about, right? Interesting to note: this one was recorded this weekend as Drake alluded to on Twitter.
BONUS: Another OB OBrien track is released in tandem — it’s a solo cut dedicated to a girl named “Hazelton Trump”. I dig the choppy flow and clear story to follow; plus, the Nicki Minaj sample that surfaces is straight up hypnotic.
