Live updates comin’ in from Toronto as the expected star-studded OVO Fest affair is going off without a hitch… and going on with a bevy of guest stars.
Widely expected surprise/not so surprise guests Kanye West, Skepta, and Future all appeared. (UPDATE: Pharrell too. Didn’t expect that one!) The former sounds like he had his own concert within Drake’s concert, in fact. And to top it off, Drake roasted Meek Mill with a slideshow of MEMEs. (I led it off above with my favorite, and I’m sure there’s more.) The tweets/clips below, to be updated throughout the night. At posting time, Kanye’s set is still going on. Wow. (UPDATES on the top now as the fest closed with “Know Yourself” and apparently “Back To back” again.)
I was runnin through the 6…Drake is joined on stage by all his woes…and Will Smith.
The subscript to OVO Fest was a cool tidbit of NBA news as the Raptors let their ambassador reveal their new away alternate threads. Drake went with the free agent signee/Toronto-bred Cory Joseph, who undoubtedly chose the number 6 for his hometown. The OVO colorway has always been a hit and translates well to the jerseys, which will likely translate well to the court too. Probably Philly’s the best, ha! What another checkmate move that’ll be for Drizzy.
Below you’ll see him rockin the threads and above, all of the options the Raptors will have this year. The colors are tight but I’m not totally feelin’ the arched ‘Raptors’ and close spacing with the numbers. It makes me want last year’s unis back, in fact. But that said, the OVO one is gonna do some numbers.
OVO Fest is already going on 6 years, which is crazy to think about, but it’ll go down the first weekend of August without a hitch and today, Drake announced the full lineup.
Looks like he’ll be merging J. Cole’s summer tour and calling on good friend Kevin Hart to perform in the T. Dot. No doubt the ‘6th’ version of OVO Fest will be a special one given that Views From The 6 should be up next.
In other news… (as you may have suspected…)
The Drake Homecoming film is not something OVO or Drake have any part in. I feel it is my responsibility to inform and protect my fans.
Drake’s annual homecoming for OVO Fest took place last night and it wasn’t short on surprise guests. How about this for a rolodex?
J. Cole, G-Unit, Usher, YG, Tinashe, DJ Khaled, his OVO Crew: PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, and OB O’Brien, Trey Songz and even Lauryn Hill. Not in attendance: Kendrick Lamar, as you may assume, but Drake did shout him out.
The star-studded affair also included Drake “flying” above the crowd performing “Marvin’s Room”. Lowkey, I’ve always wanted to see someone perform above and with the crowd… but if I were Drake, maybe choose a song like “Started From The Bottom”? Still, very cool.
Peruse the various clips for your fix below (and the best image to come out of OVO Fest).
Drake & Chris Brown have made amends in the last month — appearing in the studio together just days before an award show stealing skit at the ESPYS.
The result of said studio session is speculated to reference their mutual one-time beau Rihanna and the two were slated to surprise the Toronto crowd with a performance of this new track this weekend, until it got cancelled today, according to TMZ. The reason? Purely legal.
Canada’s zero tolerance policy for criminals will prevent Chris from crossing the border. Hence, OVO Fest in Toronto can’t feature Chris Brown. Wait, I thought Canada is supposed to be the nice country?
Fashion heads, Drake fans, take a gander at the Drake OVO Fest Collection 2014.
With OVO Fest fast approaching August 3-4, Drake announced on October’s Very Own a new line of OVO clothing. Views From The 6 is definitely represented in the headwear and you’ll notice the OVO Owl in various places within the black and white scheme. Sharp, simple, and fresh. I rocks with it. PND modeling, btw.
Toronto readers, you’ve really got to be at OVO Fest. And if you want more, definitely hit up the Pop-Up Shop too — details in the gallery.
OVO Fest 2014 is already in the works and for the annual Toronto homecoming affair, Drake tabs OutKast to co-headline the two-day concert. The ATL duo will perform night 1 on August 3rd with Drizzy concluding things the night after. Tickets are a must, and on sale next week February 21st.
