Inspired by Lupe’s flawless performance of “Deliver” this past week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, as well as the overall impressive depth of Tetsuo & Youth, I did some exploring for more classic TV performances from Lupe.
I was actually going through the catalogue after many listens of T&Y this week and one favorite that still stands tall amongst the rest is “Words I Never Said”. I know Lu and Skylar performed this live but couldn’t quite remember where. It was, appropriately, on the Colbert Report.
Colbert’s following of political millennials was the perfect demo for Lu to passionately deliver WINS with Skylar equaling his effort on yet another one of her iconic hooks. Reliving this performance was a treat and inspired even more listens of the song and some of my *Tibs Favs. on Lasers. It’s only fitting that on the week Lupe used a national stage to deliver some thought-provoking lyricism (with…err… “Deliver”) that we recognize when he did just the same back in 2011.

Nicki Minaj was not only the musical guest on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but she also sat down for a brief sit-down with the host. My biggest takeaway was that she used to be a waitress at Red Lobster. Probably common knowledge to the Barbz, but that’s not me, haha.
The video above then contains her performance of “Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey and The Roots. Nicki really let Skylar have the shine tonight and on this single in general. In fact, for all the extra parts that Skylar sings, it feels more and more like a Skylar Grey song featuring Nicki Minaj (no shade). I enjoy Skylar’s work, whether as a guest or solo, and apparently so does Russell Crowe (another takeaway from the interview). But Jimmy didn’t hear of her until recently — we gotta get ’em in check.
BONUS: Justin Timberlake also appeared on the show, in a sketch.
Today is long-awaited for Nicki Minaj fans as The Pinkprint is officially in stores now. Seemingly every A-lister is featured as you can see and now hear below.
Also below: Nicki & Skylar’s latest live TV performance of “Bed of Lies” — this one on Ellen.
Nicki was all over the place on SNL — her musical performances ranged three songs (“Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey and a blend of “Over” and “All Things Go”), she played Beyonce in a skit, appeared on the Weekend Update as Kim Kardashian, appeared in another skit… aaaand showed a lot of skin in the process. Was she the host, or James Franco?
Whatever the case, it was surely entertaining and if you missed it tonight, peruse the videos below.
On tap for Saturday Night Live this week: host James Franco and musical guest Nicki Minaj.
The match seems like a seamless one as you can see from their silly SNL promo videos below (and remember Dave Skylark at the VMAs?). Perhaps Nicki will even guest star in a sketch?
What she’s expected to perform, however, is “Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey (you should know by now, but I’m always thrilled when Skylar’s collabs get the big mainstream push!) and a TBD song off The Pinkprint, which conveniently drops right around the corner on December 15th.

It’s Shady XV day — celebrating 15 years of Shady Records since Marshall’s debut album, The Slim Shady LP. It’s a 2-disc set with the 1st containing all new records from the label; Eminem appearing on over half of them. Disc 2 is some familiar classics + the bonus track demo version of “Lose Yourself” that dropped last week and I have a full review on in the link.
Of the new Eminem tracks on Disc 1, and save for the official releases before today, I’d check “Twisted” with Skylar Grey & Yelawolf. Em’s familiar collaborator for a killer female hook does it again, yet this one’s different because the song is, as advertised, twisted. Brings me back to the Eminem of 10/15 years ago.

The AMAs are ongoing at posting time and I’ll update as the night proceeds and the videos are uploaded to the interwebs.
The highlight for me so far was Lil Wayne debuting a new song from Tha Carter V alongside his new muse Christina Milian. It’s called “Start A Fire” and sounds like it could have some mainstream legs to it. Full song and explicit version TBD (Wayne’s entire second line was bleeped out for an awkwardly long amount of time… and it was probably fantastic.)
After Tunechi and Christina pranced off the stage, Nicki Minaj and Skylar Grey performed another rendition of “Bed of Lies” in all-white attire. It was a little strange to see some cuts of people dancing with it, but I appreciate that Nicki keeps pushing one of her deeper songs that doesn’t rely on sex appeal. Skylar’s voice was piercing throughout as she continues to slay those hooks. Always great to see the next A-list single she’s involved in.
UPDATE: The studio version of “Start A Fire” can be heard here.
More 2014 AMAs Performances by Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith & A$AP Rocky, Ariana Grande & The Weeknd, and Fergie with YG & DJ Mustard.
Added Mary J. Blige “Therapy”, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande performing “Bang Bang”, and Iggy Azalea & J. Lo with “Booty” to close it out. Yup, this song closed it out. #JusSayin
Also debuted tonight: more of the “Guts Over Fear” video that drops in full tomorrow (or maybe with tonight’s midnight release of Shady XV) and Waka Flocka stars in a humorous commercial for Pine Bros. cough drops. I would rather watch this 5x than Fergie’s performance once.
