Jay Z wants out of TIDAL?

Jay Z is reportedly wanting out of his business relationship with TIDAL, according to Hits Daily Double. This, on the heels of Birdman’s $50 million dollar lawsuit for copyright infringement and multiple CEOs across just a few months. So basically, we’re all going to look at the TIDAL commercial with all the big stars in 20 years and laugh like it’s a cheesy NBA Converse commercial featuring the all-stars of the 80s. (Both below :D)

Lili K ‘RUBY’ (Album Stream)

UPDATERuby now up on Spotify. Hit up the stream and the new featurette with TIDAL below too.

As part of TIDAL’s aim to give shine to the independent music scene, they will have various interview spotlights and exclusive pre-streams of these buzzing, up coming artists. The first one I’ve seen is none other than Chicago based singer Lili K, whom you should know by now around these parts.

She’s ready to deliver RUBY on Tuesday but lets TIDAL subscribers get the first full listen. With it comes a great new interview too, where she lets people in on how she started working with Chance, Vic Mensa, and Peter CottonTale, while of course sharing some insight into the project.

Listen and read the interview here.

“I view RUBY as my official introduction to the music world. It’s my baby. I have an amazing band by my side, and I’m so happy to be sharing this experience with a group of people who I truly feel are family. Recording with them, performing with them – it’s just a giant love fest, which I believe is evident in our music. After doing lots of featured spots and working within other genres, this album is ‘home’ for me.”

Also catch Lili and her band this Tuesday for the album release at the downtown Apple Store. (I like how the Apple Store is reaching out to cultured Chicago artists for in-stores. Great crossover. Last week, J. Ivy, next week Lili K.)

Jay Z defends TIDAL on Twitter

UPDATE: Hmm… this may change some of my benefit of the doubt below…

Jay Z took to his long-neglected Twitter account today to defend TIDAL from a wave of bad press this past week examining it’s poor launch strategy and numbers.

I screencapped the stream of consciousness for ya below. A couple things I found interesting: Hov saying that companies are buying up bad press to attack TIDAL and that he revealed the number of subs (which actually seems pretty high for just 1 month. Maybe we shouldn’t be quick to judge whether or not TIDAL is a flop?

And oh yeah, pictured above is Jay Z with the cousin he apparently did send to Nigeria (via Complex)

Of course though, Twitter has a field day when any celeb gets defensive. Here’s my favorite one.

Beyonce “Die With You”

NEW Bey today as she releases a slow piano, stripped down new song/video for “Die With You” — a dedication to her husband Jay Z with a lyric like,

I don’t have a reason to be if I can’t be with you … I live so I can die with you.

Beyonce appears in the video with a similar raw look — a get out of bed braids hairstyle, backwards hat, and Michael Jackson “Thriller” t-shirt. Hey, lowkey, guys love this look too, ladies.

“Die With You” is a TIDAL “exclusive”, but really will be on YouTube in no time. However, sometimes it gets taken down right away. Will update with a working version when the internet comes out on top, as always.

UPDATE: Internet stays winning.

Jay Z launches TIDAL streaming service

UPDATE: This video drives home the artist support on 100 levels. Best part about this is clearly Daft Punk sitting at the conference table and not thinking twice about it.

UPDATE 2: Jay Z, Kanye, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Usher, Daft Punk all took part in the press conference today, and Jay Z spoke on TIDAL with Billboard here.

Watch out for this new wave of a streaming service as Jay Z has launched TIDAL — his foray into the music streaming world.

If you’re curious, you can test out the service with a free 7-day trial soon on Monday, wherein afterward it’s $19.99/month for what they call “the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial.” (The $19.99/month is for “high-fidelity audio” (better than Spotify’s 320 kbps and iTunes’ 256 kbps, supposedly, and $9.99 for standard quality audio.)

In just the past hour, a few of Hov’s superstar friends have joined the movement with more sure to follow. (Beyonce also changed her profile photo but didn’t tweet… SMH… jk…) Artists will apparently get paid more for streams of their music on here too, but more on that detail still to come.

Will this change the way music is consumed in 2015 or fad out? *looks below* I think this will stick around.

Apparently, Rihanna’s new single BBHMM, which she performed live at the iHeart Music Awards tonight (see: previous post), is only available on Tidal right now. That’s a way to reel in new listeners.
