The subscript to OVO Fest was a cool tidbit of NBA news as the Raptors let their ambassador reveal their new away alternate threads. Drake went with the free agent signee/Toronto-bred Cory Joseph, who undoubtedly chose the number 6 for his hometown. The OVO colorway has always been a hit and translates well to the jerseys, which will likely translate well to the court too. Probably Philly’s the best, ha! What another checkmate move that’ll be for Drizzy.
Below you’ll see him rockin the threads and above, all of the options the Raptors will have this year. The colors are tight but I’m not totally feelin’ the arched ‘Raptors’ and close spacing with the numbers. It makes me want last year’s unis back, in fact. But that said, the OVO one is gonna do some numbers.
Perhaps not a surprise is the Black/OVO Gold colorway that is set for an alternate thread. I believe Zach Lowe’s nickname for the Toronto Drakes will catch on even more if these jerseys prove to be true. And hey, if you’re the Raptors… why wouldn’t you go with this alternate colorway? That’d be great branding and probably the coolest jersey to rock for the casual fan who also happens to like Drake.
In general though, I hope there’s a little more to the sides of the jerseys, which we can’t fully tell yet. It feels a little bland and I like the current threads a lot already. We shall see the next step… here’s the home/away:
Late last year, Drake announced an upcoming OVO x Raptors collection with Mitchell & Ness and today we get a look at the lookbook before it all goes on sale tomorrow (Friday) morning.
I’m a fan of the old school dino logo and it even being taken a step further with some of the old school type (like the Raptors Basketball practice tee, probably my favorite of the collection.) Everything is donned in the classic OVO gold color and if I was a Toronto Raptors fan I would be quick to snatch this up asap. It just makes me wish Kanye would do something like this with the Bulls.
The collection is coming just in time for the playoffs but the Raptors aren’t looking too hot like last season. Especially after last night’s loss to our hometown Bulls. This kind of sums it up.
It didn’t take long in Sunday’s slate of games for a must-see highlight. Here’s Terrence Ross jumping from just inside the free throw line at near-max. speed. Turbo mode. Plus, the way this Vine is captured, it makes it look even cooler.
BONUS: Here’s the nation’s #1 high school recruit, Ben Simmons (born in Australia and attending LSU next year) throwing a fluid alley-oop to himself off the backboard. Nice.
