Today’s first reveal trailer of Concussion stars Will Smith and already has the people talking this morning. Smith plays the part of Dr. Bennet Omalu, the man who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and chronicles his journey to get through to the NFL to take precautions and provide the necessary attention to the disease. The drama will certainly be informative and should only spark further discussion about the NFL’s lack of attention towards concussions throughout this season. Should be interesting to see Goodell get questioned about this now, huh?
Fresh Prince, one of everyone’s all-time favorite shows, the kickstart to Will Smith’s acting career, and a show that embodies the 90s… actually seems like a show that shouldn’t be touched with a reboot. It’s classic, and how can you improve on that?
On the other hand, a well-executed reboot could be… well, fresh. The promising sign for this case is that Will Smith is reportedly leading the efforts.
TV Linereports Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a new show that “puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.” The pitch is still in the works, and Smith is expected to start shopping the show in coming weeks along with his not-divorced wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. If that’s the case, I’m intrigued to see where this goes and am hoping for best case scenario: creative, not corny plot that adds a new layer altogether to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air story. Maybe even inspired by his own prince, Jaden?? Stay tuned…
Jay Z & Will Smith are combining forces to create a miniseries on HBO centering around Emmett Till. The timing feels right for a project like this to be shared to younger generations who didn’t experience or were aware of this when it happened, especially amidst paralleled tragedies today. The premise/details via Complex:
The pair are behind an upcoming miniseries that will tell the tragic story of Emmett Till, the 14 your-old African-American teen who was murdered and mutilated in 1955 in Mississippi for merely talking to a Caucasian girl. Till’s murderers were acquitted, despite admitting to the murder later. The project is currently untitled, with no writers nor talent attached.
Over the weekend, a couple of hints at upcoming collabs involve the Smith family and Aubrey Graham.
Will called into his son’s Beats 1 radio show MSFTS Frequency and spilled the beans on a current collaborator being Drake. He has already recorded 7 songs, including some with Kanye West, but noted he’s not completely satisfied with them yet (via Complex.)
Drizzy also hinted at working with Willow, a.k.a. his Young Muse, on Instagram today. At this point it’s just speculation, but naturally it’d be for Views From The 6, right? I think this would be pretty cool, having warmed up more to Willow’s vibe throughout her recent releases.
Will Smith’s talk show tour continues with “Summertime” on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Enjoy the throwback vibes above as Will continues to hint at making music again as part of his sit-down below. DJ Jazzy Jeff even gets in on the fun, asking Will a question himself. Peruse and see.
And for fellow Bulls fans who are feeling the blues this morning (see: previous post) then this is a nice pick-me-up this morning. Hopefully this trend of rappingon talk shows will inspire Will to get more going with Kanye West in the studio.
Will Smith went all #TBT a day early last night on Letterman as he broke out a live performance of “Gettin Jiggy With It”. With his recent studio session with Kanye revealed, I’m legitimately curious and halfway excited at a possible return to rap from Will Smith.
