What was reported last week as $8 million is now Fifty-One Million. Via TMZ, Wayne is also asking the judge to declare he’s the joint copyright owner for all Young Money recordings, which include Drake & Nicki of course. Whew, this is getting ugly. More on this as the story keeps developing…
Short and sweet, but after one full week of the Cash Money rant simmering, it’s still anti-Cash Money for Weezy. The fallout is real… let’s see what happens next between Wayne and Birdman and for Tha Carter V.
Sidebar: I know Nicki Minaj has nothing to do with this development in particular, but I did just see/find this cool photo of them together for the first time when trying to pick a lead image. So there ya go.
The momentum for both Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne’s upcoming albums has officially hit a hiccup. For Wayne, there really wasn’t a solid release date, but rumors started to circulate last week that Tha Carter V would see a surprise drop today (October 28th). Mack Maine confirms that won’t happen.
As for Nicki, The Pink Print has been pushed back to December 15th and the Black Friday golden release date is no longer for her. There must be somethin’ serious holdin’ it back for it not to drop on November 24th. It won’t be the new single, revealed yesterday, “Over” featuring Drake, Wayne, & Chris Brown as that’s on track to drop first thing in the morning. Keep it locked.
The timing seems right for another new Nicki Minaj single with The Pink Print due for a Black Friday release in a little less than a month. I expect “Over” to have more of a hip hop edge with the features of her Young Money partners Drake & Lil Wayne, in contrast to “Anaconda” last month. Chris Brown on the hook, or perhaps rapping as well. The single drops, likely at midnight on iTunes, on 10.28 so come back to the site tomorrow night. Also note the single art above and the ridiculous size of those, um, logos.
It looks like the Tyga x Young Money relationship is near the end of the line. Especially after these new comments from Tyga in a new interview with VIBE today. He’s about as blunt as he can be about distancing himself from Young Money and how he doesn’t get along with Drake and Nicki. Alas…
Is Young Money a part of the creative process on this album?
Nah. I tend to distance myself from them.
Are you trying to break out on your own?
Yeah, I’m tryna’ go independent. I don’t really get along with Drake. I don’t really get along with Nicki.
I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I’m saying? I think his music is good, but we’re all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda’ like we were forcing relationships together. It is what it is. But I been friends with Chris [Brown] for like six years. That’s my real genuine friend. We hang out all the time. He lives up the street from me, so we don’t just do music we hang. I think being signed to Young Money, everybody felt like they had to force a relationship ‘cause Wayne put us together. At the end of the day the reason why I signed to Young Money is because of Wayne. Not because of Drake, not because of Nicki. It was because of Wayne and my relationship with him. I try to be cool with everybody, but sometimes, everybody just has different personalities, motives, and different characters. When you realize that, you realize that’s not a place where you want to continue to grow.
